Job Title
Senior FPGA Design Engineer
Role Summary
Design and implement FPGA-based solutions for pre-silicon validation, hardware prototyping, and high-speed interface verification. Work within cross-functional teams (architecture, RTL, verification, firmware, post-silicon) to accelerate product development and improve design quality.
Experience Level
Senior β typically requires 6+ years of FPGA design and implementation experience.
Responsibilities
Primary technical responsibilities include:
- Design and implement FPGA prototypes for ASIC validation and feature development.
- Develop RTL (Verilog/SystemVerilog) for FPGA implementation and integration.
- Integrate complex IPs (DDR/LPDDR, PCIe, Ethernet, CXL, HBM) into FPGA platforms.
- Perform synthesis, place-and-route, timing closure, and resource optimization for FPGA designs.
- Debug designs using embedded logic analyzers, simulation, and hardware instrumentation.
- Plan and execute board-level bring-up and validation for FPGA platforms.
- Create automation for FPGA build, regression, and deployment flows using Python, Tcl, or Bash.
- Collaborate with architecture, RTL, verification, firmware, and post-silicon teams to resolve functional and performance issues.
- Drive FPGA methodology improvements, coding standards, and design best practices.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience:
- 6+ years of hands-on FPGA design and implementation experience.
- Strong proficiency in Verilog/SystemVerilog and digital logic design.
- Experience with Altera Quartus Prime Pro development environment.
- Practical experience with FPGA synthesis, timing closure, and implementation flows.
- Solid understanding of clock domain crossing (CDC), reset synchronization, and timing analysis.
- Experience with high-speed interfaces (PCIe, DDR4/DDR5, LPDDR4/LPDDR5, Ethernet, AXI, CXL).
- Familiarity with simulation tools such as Questa, VCS, or Xcelium.
- Scripting experience with Python, Tcl, or Bash; strong debugging and problem-solving skills.
Nice-to-have:
- FPGA-based emulation or ASIC prototyping experience.
- Knowledge of high-speed SerDes architectures, memory controllers, and PHY interfaces.
- Familiarity with UVM-based verification environments.
- Board bring-up experience with oscilloscopes, protocol analyzers, and logic analyzers.
- Knowledge of embedded processors (ARM, Nios II/V).
Education Requirements
BS or MS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
