Job Title

Senior FPGA Design Engineer

Role Summary

Senior FPGA Design Engineer responsible for FPGA architecture, RTL design, verification, timing closure, board-level hardware interaction, and system-level integration for high-speed GPS and related systems. Work within an engineering team delivering avionics/defense-grade hardware and firmware.

Role requires solving complex timing and interface challenges and supporting bring-up and validation of FPGA-based systems. Annual salary range: $150,000 - $220,000.

Experience Level

Senior β€” typically 5–10+ years of hands-on FPGA design and development experience.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Define FPGA and system architecture for high-speed, timing-critical designs.
  • Develop RTL (VHDL/Verilog/SystemVerilog) and perform functional verification.
  • Perform synthesis, timing analysis, and timing closure using modern toolflows.
  • Design and validate high-speed interfaces (PCIe, DDR4, SerDes, Ethernet, MIPI, SPI, I2C, UART, RS232/485).
  • Collaborate with PCB/hardware engineers on board-level integration and signal integrity issues.
  • Lead bring-up, system validation, and debug of FPGA-based hardware/software integrations.
  • Produce design documentation, design reviews, and test plans; mentor junior engineers.

Requirements

Must-have and preferred qualifications:

  • Must-have: 5+ years hands-on FPGA design experience with RTL design (VHDL/Verilog/SystemVerilog) and FPGA toolflows.
  • Must-have: Experience with Xilinx (including SoC devices) or Intel/Altera FPGAs; familiarity with AMD Vivado, Intel Quartus, ModelSim or equivalent tools.
  • Must-have: Practical experience with high-speed circuit design and interfaces (PCIe, DDR4, SerDes, Ethernet, etc.) and timing analysis/closure.
  • Must-have: Proven ability to perform board-level bring-up and system-level validation.
  • Nice-to-have: ASIC experience (Cadence/Synopsys flows), embedded software (C/C++), Python/Bash/TCL scripting, and experience with safety-critical or defense/aerospace projects.
  • Must-have: US citizenship (required). Active security clearance is a strong advantage.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience. Security clearance or experience in security-cleared environments is noted as a strong advantage.
