Job Title
Senior FPGA Design Engineer
Role Summary
Perceptive Innovations seeks an experienced engineer to lead and contribute to FPGA-based digital signal processing development for RF and optical/thermal imaging systems. The role focuses on architecture, RTL implementation, verification, and delivery of high-performance FPGA solutions for embedded systems.
Successful candidates must be U.S. citizens and able to obtain a DoD security clearance.
Experience Level
Senior-level. Minimum 5 years of FPGA development experience required; 10+ years preferred, including leadership of FPGA projects.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include design, verification, integration, and documentation of FPGA signal processing systems.
- Architect, implement, and optimize FPGA-based digital signal processing engines for RF and imaging systems.
- Develop self-checking unit and system-level testbenches and run simulations.
- Troubleshoot and resolve design, timing, and integration issues.
- Integrate FPGA IP cores and interfaces (memory, video, Ethernet, USB, SFP+, etc.).
- Produce detailed design documentation and government-facing reports as required.
- Manage individual tasks and schedules, participate in code reviews, and coordinate with team members and customers.
Requirements
Must-have skills and qualifications are listed first, followed by desirable skills.
- U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain a DoD security clearance (mandatory).
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on RTL design, simulation, and implementation experience; VHDL primary, Verilog secondary.
- Mastery of FPGA tool flows (Xilinx Vitis/Vivado, Intel Quartus Prime, Lattice Radiant, Microsemi Libero); synthesis, place-and-route, TCL scripting and GUI usage.
- Recent Xilinx experience with UltraScale+ devices, Zynq UltraScale+ MPSoC, and Versal platforms; understanding of FPGA SoC hardware/software co-design.
- Experience integrating DDR memory, HDMI/DisplayPort video, multi-gigabit Ethernet, SFP+, and USB3 interfaces.
- Strong Linux experience (including embedded Linux) and familiarity with embedded multicore processors.
- Ability to develop verification environments and self-checking testbenches; strong debugging skills.
- Proficiency with version control (Git, Subversion) and scripting for automation (Tcl, Python, Perl, etc.).
- Clear written and verbal communication for technical documentation and customer interaction.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with SIGINT, EW, radar, lidar, communications, or image processing.
- Experience with MicroBlaze, PicoBlaze, ARM Cortex-A9, or bringing up Linux/RTOS on FPGA SoCs (Yocto).
- Familiarity with lab equipment (oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers) and hardware/PCB bring-up.
- Experience with OpenVPX, VITA49, digital receivers/transmitters, and CMMC/cloud development practices.
- Modeling in MATLAB/Simulink/Python and translating high-level models to FPGA implementations; experience with C/C++ embedded code.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or ECE is required; a master's degree is preferred.
