Job Title

Senior FPGA Design Engineer

Role Summary

Develop FPGA-based solutions for pre-silicon validation, hardware prototyping, and high-speed interface verification. Work closely with architecture, RTL, verification, firmware, and post-silicon teams to accelerate product development and improve design quality.

Experience Level

Senior β€” posting specifies 8+ years of FPGA design and implementation experience.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include implementing FPGA prototypes, bringing up boards, debugging, and improving FPGA development methodology.

  • Design and implement FPGA prototypes for ASIC validation and feature development.
  • Develop RTL in Verilog/SystemVerilog for FPGA implementation.
  • Integrate complex IPs such as DDR/LPDDR, PCIe, Ethernet, CXL, or HBM into FPGA platforms.
  • Perform FPGA synthesis, place-and-route, timing closure, and resource optimization.
  • Debug designs using embedded logic analyzers, simulation, and hardware instrumentation.
  • Plan and execute board-level bring-up and validation for FPGA platforms.
  • Create automation scripts for FPGA build, regression, and deployment using Python, Tcl, or Bash.
  • Collaborate with architecture, RTL, verification, firmware, and post-silicon teams to resolve functional and performance issues.
  • Drive FPGA methodology improvements, coding standards, and design best practices.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience.

  • 8+ years of FPGA design and implementation experience.
  • Proficient in Verilog/SystemVerilog and digital logic design.
  • Experience with Altera Quartus Prime Pro development environment.
  • Experience with FPGA synthesis, timing closure, implementation, clock domain crossing (CDC), and reset synchronization.
  • Experience with high-speed interfaces such as PCIe, DDR4/DDR5, LPDDR4/LPDDR5, Ethernet, AXI, or CXL; familiarity with memory controllers and PHY interfaces.
  • Familiarity with simulation tools such as Questa, VCS, or Xcelium.
  • Scripting experience (Python, Tcl, or Bash) and automation of FPGA flows.
  • Strong debugging and problem-solving skills; experience with board bring-up tools (oscilloscopes, protocol/logic analyzers).
  • Ability to work effectively across architecture, RTL, validation, firmware, and software teams and to lead technical discussions.

Nice-to-have: FPGA-based emulation/ASIC prototyping, high-speed SerDes knowledge, UVM-based verification experience, embedded processor experience (ARM, Nios II/V).

Education Requirements

BS or MS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field (posting specifies BS/MS). Equivalent practical experience not explicitly stated.
