Senior FPGA Design Engineer
Role Summary
Design and implement FPGA-based systems using VHDL for mission-critical embedded applications. The role covers RTL development, verification, board bring-up, and integration with packet-processing and external digital interfaces. Work is onsite in San Diego and requires an active government clearance.
Experience Level
Senior β typically requires 10+ years of FPGA design experience.
Responsibilities
Primary duties include design, verification, integration, and support of FPGA systems.
- Architect, implement, and maintain FPGA RTL in VHDL.
- Develop and run simulations, unit tests, and verification environments.
- Perform board-level bring-up, hardware debug, and root-cause analysis.
- Integrate and validate packet-handling logic and external digital interfaces.
- Collaborate with system, firmware, and hardware teams to meet requirements and schedules.
- Produce and maintain design documentation, test plans, and release artifacts.
- Support secure features and work with cryptography-related requirements when applicable.
Requirements
Must-have skills, clearance, and working conditions.
- 10+ years of FPGA design experience.
- Strong VHDL skills and RTL design experience.
- Proven experience with board and FPGA bring-up and hardware debug.
- Experience with packet handling and external digital interfaces (required).
- Active government clearance required.
- Onsite full-time presence in San Diego required for the contract.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with cryptography and secure implementations.
- Experience with Microchip FPGAs.
