Job Title

Senior FPGA Design Engineer

Role Summary

Design and implement FPGA-based prototypes and validation platforms to support pre-silicon verification, hardware bring-up, and high-speed interface validation. Work closely with architecture, RTL, verification, firmware, and post-silicon teams to accelerate product development and improve design quality.

Experience Level

Senior β€” 8+ years of FPGA design and implementation experience.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include building FPGA prototypes, integrating complex IP, achieving timing closure, and supporting hardware debugging and validation.

  • Design and implement FPGA prototypes for ASIC validation and feature development.
  • Develop RTL (Verilog/SystemVerilog) targeted for FPGA implementation.
  • Integrate and validate complex IPs (DDR/LPDDR, PCIe, Ethernet, CXL, HBM) on FPGA platforms.
  • Perform FPGA synthesis, place-and-route, timing closure, and resource optimization.
  • Debug designs using embedded logic analyzers, simulation, and hardware instrumentation.
  • Plan and execute board-level bring-up and validation for FPGA platforms.
  • Create automation for FPGA build, regression, and deployment flows (Python, Tcl, Bash).
  • Collaborate across architecture, RTL, verification, firmware, and post-silicon teams to resolve functional and performance issues.
  • Drive FPGA methodology improvements, coding standards, and design best practices.

Requirements

Key technical must-haves and desirable skills.

Must-have

  • 8+ years of FPGA design and implementation experience.
  • Strong proficiency in Verilog/SystemVerilog and digital logic design.
  • Experience with Intel/Altera Quartus Prime Pro development environment.
  • Proven FPGA synthesis, timing-closure, place-and-route, and implementation experience.
  • Strong understanding of clock-domain crossing (CDC), reset synchronization, and timing analysis.
  • Experience with high-speed interfaces (PCIe, DDR4/DDR5, LPDDR4/LPDDR5, Ethernet, AXI, CXL).
  • Familiarity with simulation tools such as Questa, VCS, or Xcelium.
  • Scripting for automation using Python, Tcl, or Bash.
  • Strong debugging and problem-solving skills.

Nice-to-have

  • Experience with FPGA-based emulation or ASIC prototyping.
  • Knowledge of high-speed SerDes architectures and memory controller/PHY interfaces.
  • Familiarity with UVM-based verification environments.
  • Experience with board bring-up tools: oscilloscopes, protocol analyzers, logic analyzers.
  • Knowledge of embedded processors (ARM, Nios II/V).

Education Requirements

BS or MS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
