Senior FPGA/CPLD Engineer (Server & Storage)

Role Summary

Develop and validate CPLD and FPGA designs for server and storage products, focusing on production power-on sequence control logic and subsystem architecture. Work on designs of basic to moderate complexity and escalate complex issues to senior staff or management.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Hardware, BIOS, BMC, Firmware) to deliver production-ready implementations and maintain existing designs.

Experience Level

Senior-level. The posting requests at least 3+ years of CPLD/FPGA development experience.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities for this role include design, validation, and production support for CPLD/FPGA implementations.

• Collaborate with Hardware, BIOS, BMC, and Firmware teams on CPLD/FPGA design, validation, and maintenance.
• Develop production power-on sequence control logic for server and storage platforms using CPLD/FPGA.
• Implement new design concepts and integrate new technologies in CPLD/FPGA solutions.
• Create test plans, development specifications, and track issues through resolution.
• Perform RTL coding and simulation; build and maintain test benches and CI builds.
• Develop subsystem architecture under direction of lead engineers and escalate complex issues as needed.
• Support production handoff and ongoing maintenance of FPGA/CPLD assets.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and practical experience; a short list of preferred additions follows.

• 3+ years of hands-on CPLD/FPGA development experience.
• Proficient in Verilog or VHDL; experienced with RTL coding standards and simulation.
• Experience with I2C, SPI, UART, and SGPIO protocols.
• Experience using Git, building test benches, and following RTL coding practices.
• Effective English communication skills and ability to work in a distributed/global team.
• Ability to influence peers and share best practices.
• Domestic and international travel as required.

Nice-to-have:

• SystemVerilog, UVM experience.
• Prior server-product, BMC, or firmware integration experience.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's or Master's in Electrical Engineering (BSEE/MSEE) or equivalent practical experience. The employer accepts an equivalent combination of education, training, or experience.
