Job Title

Senior FPGA Circuit Design Engineer

Role Summary

As a Senior FPGA Circuit Design Engineer, you will design, micro-architect, simulate, and verify complex FPGA circuits and IP (core fabric, interconnect/routing, clocking, configuration, configurable memory blocks, and Network-on-Chip). You will own substantial portions of FPGA architecture and implementation, drive technical decisions, and mentor junior engineers while coordinating with SoC, RTL, verification, physical design, and silicon validation teams.

Altera is a pure-play FPGA company focused on programmable technologies for AI, cloud, networking, and edge systems.

Experience Level

Senior β€” requires approximately 8+ years of industry experience in FPGA or ASIC design.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include architecture, design, verification, and integration of FPGA circuits and IP.

  • Design and develop FPGA core fabric logic, interconnect/routing, clocking, configuration, configurable memory blocks, and NoC architectures.
  • Define microarchitecture and perform circuit/logic design, making tradeoffs for power, performance, area, timing, reliability, and yield.
  • Create schematics, RTL implementations, behavioral models, and simulations to validate architectures and capabilities.
  • Lead functional and reliability verification; identify, debug, and resolve complex design issues in collaboration with verification teams.
  • Produce and maintain design models, specifications, timing and power models, and integration collateral.
  • Analyze design results and drive improvements to meet PPA, timing, reliability, and yield goals.
  • Coordinate integration across microarchitecture, SoC/full-chip, RTL, verification, physical design, and silicon validation teams.
  • Drive technical resolution across multiple engineering disciplines and contribute to design methodology and flow improvements.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to less-experienced engineers.
  • Support silicon bring-up and post-silicon debug as required.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience for successful performance in this role.

  • 8+ years of experience in FPGA or ASIC circuit, IP, or RTL design, including development of complex digital logic and silicon subsystems.
  • Experience in microarchitecture and logic design for FPGA fabric, interconnects, routing, clocking, memory structures, processor subsystems, or NoC architectures.
  • Hands-on experience with hardware design and simulation methodologies: schematic entry, RTL development, behavioral modeling, circuit simulation, and functional verification.
  • Proficiency with industry-standard FPGA/ASIC design tools and flows: simulation, synthesis, static timing analysis, linting, design-rule/electrical-rule checking, and power analysis.
  • Experience developing and analyzing timing, power, performance, area, reliability, and yield characteristics of silicon circuits and IP.
  • Experience creating design models, technical specifications, timing/power models, and other collateral for hardware/software integration.
  • Proven ability to collaborate across cross-functional teams and to independently drive complex technical assignments and decisions.
  • Preferred: demonstrated experience in FPGA routing/interconnect/fabric architectures, configurable memory blocks, clocking and configuration logic, model development, silicon bring-up/post-silicon validation, and mentoring or technical leadership.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, or a related field is required. The role also expects approximately 8+ years of industry FPGA or ASIC design experience.
