Senior FPGA Certification Engineer
Role Summary
The Senior FPGA Certification Engineer is a member of the FPGA team responsible for the firmware at the core of a phased array radar product used for Detect and Avoid. This role leads the FPGA certification lifecycle to meet aviation safety requirements and coordinates certification activities with regulators and designated engineering representatives.
Experience Level
Senior β typically 10+ years of relevant experience in aviation electronics hardware development and certification.
Responsibilities
Lead and execute certification activities for FPGA-based airborne electronic hardware.
- Own the FPGA certification lifecycle and author DO-254 plans, standards, and documentation.
- Develop and maintain compliant processes for peer review, testing, and verification.
- Qualify and validate relevant design and verification tools per DO-254 requirements.
- Define verification strategies and guide verification execution to meet certification objectives.
- Coordinate certification efforts with the FAA and relevant DERs.
- Support transition of hardware from development to certified product, including field support as needed.
Requirements
Key must-have skills and qualifications for successful performance in this role.
- 10+ years of full-cycle aviation electronics hardware development experience.
- Proven experience with safety-critical FPGA certification in a DO-254 Level A/B process.
- Professional experience designing and/or verifying FPGA digital logic using industry-standard design, simulation, and synthesis tools.
- Experience qualifying design and verification tools and implementing verification processes for certification.
- Ability to work with regulators and DERs to support certification milestones and reviews.
- Must be able to comply with U.S. export control requirements; access to export-controlled technology may require U.S. person status or government authorization.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with radar systems or RF transceivers.
- Proven product ownership, including development and field support.
- Comfortable working in an agile, fast-paced development environment.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a closely related technical field is required or equivalent practical experience. An advanced degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering is preferred. The posting allows equivalent practical experience in lieu of a degree.
