Senior Firmware Validation Architect, Server Platforms
Advanced Micro DevicesJob Title
Senior Firmware Validation Architect, Server Platforms
Role Summary
Design and implement automation-ready, end-to-end firmware validation flows for AMD server-class platforms (EPYC CPUs and Instinct GPUs). Collaborate with SoC, firmware, simulation, and validation teams to define test strategies, coverage goals, and reproducible triage artifacts across pre-silicon and post-silicon environments.
Hybrid role based in Austin, TX. This role is not eligible for visa sponsorship.
Experience Level
Senior — the role expects experienced engineers; no specific years of experience were stated.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities focus on defining test strategy, developing automated tests that run on simulated and real hardware, and improving validation infrastructure.
- Partner with firmware architects and validation teams to define platform-level firmware test strategies and coverage goals.
- Scope and develop verification test cases that run on pre-silicon simulators and post-silicon platforms.
- Implement end-to-end test flows covering boot and runtime; produce repeatable artifacts (logs, register dumps, SOL captures) for triage and defect closure.
- Execute tests, debug failures, and drive defect resolution with firmware and hardware teams.
- Contribute to coverage analysis, emphasizing system-level firmware/hardware interactions and cross-domain dependencies.
- Enhance test infrastructure to improve coverage, execution efficiency, and reporting/triage workflows.
- Work with simulation/emulation teams to extend virtual platforms for system-level validation.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and practical experience expected for the role; preferred items are listed separately.
- Proven experience in firmware/software validation or test development for system/SoC platforms.
- Strong foundation in computer architecture and enterprise server platform features; hands-on SoC validation or system bring-up and low-level debugging.
- Experience designing tests for pre-silicon (simulation/emulation) and post-silicon environments and scoping pre-silicon validation.
- Practical coding experience writing test code and tools in C and/or C++; scripting in Python, Perl, or Bash.
- Demonstrated ability to produce reproducible test artifacts and perform effective triage and debug.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills for cross-functional teamwork.
- AI-first engineering capability: ability to leverage generative AI, copilots, automation agents, or data-driven tools to improve validation productivity and quality.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with Simics or equivalent full-system simulators and agent-based or data-driven validation frameworks.
- Experience or knowledge in BIOS/UEFI concepts, RAS features, memory subsystem validation, power management, platform security (TPM, SPDM, Secure Boot), virtualization, high-speed I/O (PCIe, CXL), or sideband protocols (MCTP, PLDM, RDE).
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or master’s degree in a related discipline preferred (computer engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, or similar).
