Senior Firmware Engineer, NIC Firmware
Role Summary
Join the NIC Firmware team to design and implement firmware features for Mellanox network interface controllers used in cloud, HPC, and storage systems. The role partners with architects and software teams to deliver core firmware, verification, and system-level debugging across hardware, firmware, and software.
Work is technical, fast-paced, and focused on low-latency, high-throughput networking for large-scale deployments.
Experience Level
Senior β typically 5+ years of professional software development experience.
Responsibilities
The role focuses on implementing firmware features, creating verification tests, and collaborating across teams to deliver production-quality NIC firmware.
- Implement new features in the core NIC firmware.
- Develop and execute verification tests in a sophisticated firmware testing environment.
- Collaborate with architecture and software design teams to define and deliver features.
- Investigate and debug system-level issues involving HW/FW/SW interactions.
- Participate in software maintenance, qualification, release processes, and project operations.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience. Nice-to-have items listed separately.
- 5+ years of professional software development experience.
- Strong proficiency in C and C++.
- Solid understanding of networking protocols.
- Experience with PCIe and virtualization technologies.
- Strong fundamentals in data structures and algorithms.
- Scripting experience with Python and/or Bash.
- Strong analytical, debugging, and problem-solving skills.
- Self-motivated, independent, and effective team contributor with strong interpersonal skills.
Nice to have:
- Deep familiarity with RDMA stacks (RoCE, InfiniBand) and low-latency networking.
- Experience in high-performance or large-scale compute environments.
- Proven experience with distributed systems and scalability challenges.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience. (No additional degrees or certifications are required or specified.)
