Job Title
Senior Firmware Engineer
Role Summary
Develop firmware and associated tools for the Infinity Fabric interconnect used across AMD products. The role focuses on firmware design, implementation, validation and support for silicon bring-up and post-silicon debugging.
Join a cross-functional IP firmware team working on high-performance computing platforms.
Experience Level
Senior β the posting designates a senior-level role; no explicit years-of-experience requirement provided.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include design, implementation, testing and support of firmware and related tooling:
- Design, implement and maintain firmware for the Infinity Fabric interconnect across AMD products.
- Develop and enhance Python-based tools that process complex data to generate hardware initialization binaries.
- Create tools and infrastructure for collection and processing of initialization data.
- Perform unit and integration testing; support emulation, simulation and post-silicon validation and debugging.
- Work with architects and IP leads to define firmware scope and meet milestones.
- Participate in design and code reviews; document designs and solutions concisely.
- Collaborate with internal and external teams to ensure firmware quality throughout the lifecycle.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and attributes; nice-to-have items listed separately.
-
Must-have: Expert in low-level C programming and embedded software optimization and debugging.
-
Must-have: Experience with full firmware development lifecycle, integration, and verification/validation for pre- and post-silicon SoC designs.
-
Must-have: Experience with hardware/software interfaces and methodical debugging using source-level debuggers and system debug tools.
-
Must-have: Experience with source control systems (git, gerrit) and working in cross-functional distributed teams.
-
Must-have: Well-organized, self-starter, able to support multiple products and coordinate with geographically distributed teams.
-
Nice-to-have: Background in computer architecture (memory interleaving, system memory maps, NUMA concepts).
-
Nice-to-have: Experience with board and processor/ASIC bring-up, simulation and/or emulation platforms.
-
Nice-to-have: Experience developing or enhancing Python-based tooling for data processing and binary generation.
