Senior Firmware Engineer
AndurilJob Title
Senior Firmware Engineer
Role Summary
Design and implement FPGA/firmware for imaging products used in defense systems. Work with electrical, software, and systems engineers to take prototypes through testing and product maturity for ground and flight deployments.
Experience Level
Senior - typically requires 10+ years of experience in HDL/firmware development for FPGA devices.
Responsibilities
Deliver FPGA/firmware architecture, RTL, and integration for imaging hardware; develop test infrastructure and support prototype validation and productionization.
- Lead FPGA architecture, standards, development and design reviews.
- Design, simulate, and integrate VHDL/Verilog/SystemVerilog RTL into FPGAs or SoCs for performance, area, and power targets.
- Collaborate on hardware/software integration including processor bring-up and board support packages.
- Develop robust testbenches (VHDL/Verilog) and perform lab validation using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and other instrumentation.
- Optimize algorithms for hardware acceleration and efficient use of on-chip buses and protocols (e.g., AXI, AXI-Stream).
- Support prototype build, ground and flight testing, and transition of designs into production.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills, tools, and eligibility requirements.
- 10+ years developing HDL firmware for FPGA devices.
- Expertise in VHDL and/or Verilog/SystemVerilog for RTL design.
- Experience with FPGA toolchains such as Xilinx Vivado or Intel Quartus.
- Strong hardware/software debugging skills using lab equipment (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, etc.).
- Proficiency with version control systems (e.g., Git) for collaborative development.
- Eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with multi-gigabit SERDES, DDR memory busses, Ethernet MAC/PHY interfaces, SPI, and I2C.
- Embedded software experience with timers, interrupts, SPI controllers, ADCs, and embedded Linux (device trees, drivers, bootloaders).
- Familiarity with Python, MATLAB, and infrared image sensor technology.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field is typically required.
