Senior Firmware Engineer
Role Summary
The Senior Firmware Engineer will design and deliver firmware and FPGA subsystems for cooled infrared camera products, working with an interdisciplinary engineering team from prototype through flight and production.
Work is based in Hudson, NH as part of the Advanced Infrared Solutions (AIRS) team within Anduril's Imaging business line.
Experience Level
Senior β typically 10+ years of relevant experience in HDL/FPGA firmware development.
Responsibilities
Deliver architecture, RTL, integration, and verification of FPGA-based systems and support hardware/software bring-up and testing.
- Lead FPGA architecture, standards, and design reviews.
- Design, simulate, and integrate VHDL/Verilog/SystemVerilog RTL into FPGAs or SoCs for performance, area, and power.
- Collaborate with electrical, software, and systems engineers on processor bring-up, board support, and system integration.
- Create and run test benches and hardware validation using lab equipment (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, etc.).
- Optimize algorithms and interfaces for hardware acceleration and efficient use of on-chip buses (e.g., AXI, AXI-Stream).
- Prototype hardware, support ground and flight testing, and help mature designs into production-ready products.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills, security eligibility, and experience.
- 10+ years developing HDL firmware for FPGA devices (industry or equivalent systems experience).
- Expertise in VHDL and/or Verilog/SystemVerilog for RTL design.
- Experience with industry FPGA toolflows such as Xilinx Vivado or Intel Quartus.
- Strong hardware/software debugging skills and experience with standard lab equipment.
- Proficiency with version control systems (e.g., Git) for collaborative development.
- Eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance.
Nice-to-have
- Experience with multi-gigabit SERDES, DDR memory buses, Ethernet MAC/PHY interfaces, SPI, and I2C.
- Embedded software experience (timers, interrupts, SPI controllers, ADCs) and familiarity with embedded Linux (device trees, drivers, bootloaders).
- Knowledge of Python and MATLAB for tooling/analysis.
- Familiarity with infrared image sensor technology.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field is typically required.
