Senior Field Applications Engineer (Automotive Tier 1 & OEM)
Role Summary
Provide application engineering and technical support to automotive OEM and Tier‑1 customers for Renesas MCUs, SoCs, analog, and power products. Drive design‑in, define product requirements with customers and internal teams, and support system demonstrators and documentation.
Experience Level
Senior - requires 5+ years of field applications engineering experience in automotive applications and customer engagement.
Responsibilities
Work directly with customer engineering teams and internal stakeholders to achieve design‑in and product definition goals.
- Drive design‑in activities across Renesas automotive product portfolio (IVI, ADAS, xEV, vehicle controls).
- Define product and system requirements with customers, product marketing, and application teams.
- Act as technical interface and consultant for OEM customer projects.
- Manage projects with Sales and Marketing to meet design‑in targets.
- Collaborate with global cross‑functional teams and partners to develop application notes, whitepapers, and demonstrators.
- Lead technical discussions with system architects and application experts to shape roadmaps and requirements.
- Perform system bring‑up, lab measurements, testing, and debugging for customer projects.
- Present technologies and solutions in technical seminars.
Requirements
Must‑have technical skills, customer experience, and language abilities for an OEM‑facing role.
- Must have: 5+ years of FAE experience working with automotive customers (OEMs/Tier‑1).
- Must have: Knowledge of semiconductors including SoC, MCU, analog, and power products.
- Must have: Experience with embedded OS/frameworks (Linux, QNX, AUTOSAR, RTOS) and multi‑threaded programming; strong IPC and OS fundamentals.
- Must have: Hands‑on system bring‑up, testing, debugging, and experience with lab instruments (oscilloscope, logic analyzer, etc.).
- Must have: Understanding of automotive functional safety and cybersecurity concepts; power and thermal management at system level; vehicle architecture and network design.
- Must have: Fluent Japanese for customer‑facing interactions; conversational English for internal reporting.
- Nice to have: Experience developing middleware solutions and system demonstrators combining hardware and software.
