Job Title
Senior Field Applications Engineer
Role Summary
The Senior Field Applications Engineer (Embedded Solutions Engineer / FAE) provides technical leadership for customers adopting Microchip FPGA solutions. You will support pre-sales and post-sales activities, lead system-architecture and design reviews, and drive design wins to production in collaboration with sales, marketing, and global product teams.
Experience Level
Senior-level. The role expects approximately 5β7+ years of relevant FPGA or embedded-systems experience.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include technical engagement with customers across the product lifecycle and internal collaboration to convert designs into revenue.
- Provide pre-sales and post-sales technical support for FPGA solutions; engage across the full client adoption lifecycle.
- Lead system-architecture discussions, board-level schematic reviews, and design-in support to meet FPGA and companion IC requirements.
- Advise on all phases of programmable-logic design: requirements analysis, HDL development (Verilog/VHDL), synthesis, place-and-route, timing closure, hardware debug, and tools.
- Support embedded hard- and soft-processor system design and integration with RISC-V or ARM-based CPUs.
- Deliver product training, technical overviews, seminars, and workshops for customers and internal teams.
- Collaborate with global account teams and product divisions to provide customer feedback and influence product roadmap and ROI assessments.
- Manage multiple customer engagements concurrently and drive designs from prototype to production.
- Travel as required: approximately 0%β25%.
Requirements
Essential technical skills and experience required to perform the role.
-
Must have: 5β7+ years of FPGA-based design or applications experience; deep knowledge of Verilog or VHDL.
- Hands-on experience with FPGA toolchains such as Libero, Vivado, or Quartus and familiarity with synthesis and simulation EDA tools.
- Experience with high-speed serial interfaces and transceivers (PCIe, DDR3/4, LPDDR3/4, MIPI).
- Embedded processor experience and working knowledge of C and Linux; ability to use software debugging tools and support embedded system bring-up.
- Experience with Microsemi/Microchip, Xilinx, or Intel/Altera FPGA families.
- Strong system-level debugging, problem-solving, communication, and ability to present technical material to customers.
- Ability to manage multiple technical engagements and take ownership of tasks to completion.
-
Nice to have: Familiarity with hardware security concepts (secure boot, encryption, key management, PUFs), HSM-based key provisioning, building/customizing Linux images, and prior experience with RISC-V.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's degree in an engineering discipline (for example EEE, ECE, EIC, ETC, or VLSI) is specified in the source posting.
