Senior Field Application Engineer - HPC
Role Summary
Lead technical engagement for HPC opportunities in Europe, focusing on positioning AMD EPYC CPUs and Instinct GPUs with customers and partners. This is a customer-facing, hands-on role responsible for proofs of concept, performance testing, characterization, and coordinating technical stakeholders across engineering, product, and sales teams.

Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include customer technical ownership, performance validation, and collaboration with internal teams to drive product adoption.
- Lead HPC technical engagement and product demonstrations for key customer accounts.
- Design and execute proofs of concept and performance tests on CPU and GPU platforms.
- Characterize application performance on EPYC and Instinct, document and present results.
- Test and profile early CPU samples; provide field feedback to Architecture, Engineering, Platform, Software, and Product teams.
- Debug hardware, toolchain, and runtime performance issues; submit and drive resolution of technical tickets.
- Coordinate with partners on their HPC testing and provide hands-on assistance.
- Create training materials and deliver training sessions to customers and internal teams; mentor junior FAEs.
- Automate repeatable test and validation procedures and assist with TCO modelling for bids.

Must-have: Proven expertise in HPC application performance testing on CPUs; GPU experience is strongly desirable.
- Deep knowledge of HPC toolchains and runtime optimization; ability to diagnose performance at system and software levels.
- Experience compiling large codes from source and linking appropriate math libraries and optimization flags.
- Strong technical program management skills and the ability to lead technical relationships with customers and partners.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to produce technical documentation.
- Customer-facing experience and ability to prioritize independently to deliver results on time.
- Some Linux administration experience and familiarity with HPC middleware setup.
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally (~10β25%).
Nice-to-have:
- Experience winning HPC opportunities and running baseline tests of synthetic and real-world codes (e.g., HPL, OpenFOAM, molecular dynamics, CFD, weather).
- Experience running HPC applications on GPUs (CUDA, OpenACC, OpenMP) and running AI models on CPU or GPU.
- Knowledge of assembly inspection, memory and cache hierarchy performance analysis, and low-level HPC dataflow.
- Security clearance for US national labs.
Education Requirements
