Senior Field Application Engineer - Automotive Software and System
Role Summary
Provide customer-facing embedded software and system-level support for ADI's automotive semiconductor portfolio across China. Work closely with strategic OEM and Tier 1 customers to enable product evaluation, software integration, platform bring-up, debugging, and technical relationship management.
The role serves as a technical liaison between customers, sales, and ADI product teams to accelerate design-in and resolve complex software/system issues.
Experience Level
Senior β typically 5+ years of relevant experience in embedded software, field applications, automotive electronics, or semiconductor technical support.
Responsibilities
Primary on-site software-focused field application responsibilities for automotive customers in China.
- Serve as the primary software FAE for key automotive accounts, providing on-site and remote technical support.
- Support product evaluation, software integration, platform bring-up, troubleshooting, and root-cause analysis.
- Drive design-in and design-win efforts through technical leadership, demonstrations, and proofs-of-concept.
- Diagnose and resolve complex issues across firmware, drivers, middleware, interfaces, and full system behavior.
- Lead technical presentations, design reviews, workshops, and training for customers and internal teams.
- Capture and relay customer feedback on software requirements, product gaps, feature requests, and competitor activity.
- Coordinate with sales and global engineering teams to align technical solutions with customer needs.
- Travel to customer sites and events as required (~10% travel).
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience; preferred items listed separately.
Must-have:
- Minimum 5 years in embedded software, applications engineering, automotive electronics, or semiconductor technical support.
- Proven customer-facing experience supporting OEMs or Tier 1 suppliers.
- Strong knowledge of automotive embedded software development: firmware, drivers, middleware, debugging, and system integration.
- Hands-on experience with MCUs, DSPs, SoCs, or similar embedded processing platforms.
- Proficiency with automotive/embedded interfaces such as SPI, I2C, UART, CAN, Ethernet, I2S, TDM, or similar protocols.
- Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills spanning software, hardware, and system levels.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills in Chinese and English.
- Willingness to travel to customer sites (~10%).
- May require export licensing review for access to certain technical data (per U.S. export control regulations).
Nice-to-have:
- Prior experience supporting China automotive OEMs, Tier 1 suppliers, or ecosystem partners.
- Familiarity with automotive domains such as audio, connectivity, DSP, ADAS, display, BMS, edge processing, power, and sensing.
- Experience working in multinational teams and collaborating with global engineering organizations.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
