Job Title

Senior Engineer, Systems Applications – Power Solutions

Role Summary

Join the Power Solutions group as a Senior Systems Applications Engineer to develop system-level power architectures and reference solutions for industrial growth markets (robotics, automation, instrumentation, energy infrastructure, and intelligent edge systems).

The role translates customer requirements into practical power trees, reference designs, evaluation plans, and product feedback while working across product lines, field teams, and customers as an individual contributor.

Experience Level

Senior — typically 5+ years of relevant experience in power systems, power management ICs, power modules, industrial power applications, applications engineering, or related semiconductor/system roles.

Responsibilities

Deliver system-level power solutions, engage with customers and field teams, and produce reusable technical collateral and feedback that drives product and solution strategy.

  • Develop and validate system-level power architectures addressing conversion, distribution, protection, isolation, sequencing, telemetry, thermal, EMI/EMC, reliability, and control.
  • Translate customer requirements into power trees, solution concepts, trade-off analyses, evaluation plans, and reference design inputs.
  • Apply switch‑mode power conversion, control, magnetics, filter design, and EMI mitigation knowledge to define optimized solutions.
  • Use simulation tools (SPICE, MATLAB, Mathcad, or equivalent) to analyze power-stage behavior, control-loop performance, transients, and thermal limits.
  • Perform hands-on lab work: bring-up, debug, characterize, optimize, and validate power circuits; capture data, waveform analysis, efficiency and thermal measurements, and EMI investigations.
  • Identify and resolve implementation issues such as parasitics, layout sensitivity, start-up behavior, stability, noise, protection response, and production variability.
  • Support architecture and application reviews; ensure solutions are practical, manufacturable, differentiated, and aligned with product direction.
  • Create reusable collateral: design guides, simulation examples, lab results, evaluation concepts, training material, and presentations for customers and field teams.
  • Collaborate with product management, systems engineering, marketing, sales, and field teams; capture lessons learned and feed insights into product planning and enablement.

Requirements

Key qualifications and skills expected for success in this role.

  • Must-have: Strong technical expertise in power conversion, distribution, protection, isolation, EMI/EMC, thermal trade-offs, transient response, reliability, and system-level constraints.
  • Must-have: Hands-on lab experience with power circuit bring-up, debugging, measurement, and characterization.
  • Must-have: Proficiency with simulation and modeling tools (SPICE, MATLAB, Mathcad, or equivalents) for analyzing power systems and control loops.
  • Must-have: Demonstrated customer-facing communication skills and experience working with field teams and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Must-have: Proven ability to manage technical deliverables independently, exercise sound engineering judgment, and drive execution.
  • Must-have: Willingness to travel domestically and internationally (typically 10–20%).
  • Nice-to-have: Experience in target domains such as robotics, industrial automation, instrumentation, test and measurement, energy or data infrastructure.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience with power management ICs, power modules, or semiconductor solution development.
  • Other: May require export licensing review for positions needing access to controlled technical data; non-US applicants could be subject to additional review.

Education Requirements

Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) required. Master of Science (MSEE), PhD, or equivalent advanced experience in power electronics, electrical engineering, systems engineering, or related technical fields preferred. Equivalent practical experience may be considered.
