Senior Engineer, SSD Validation

Role Summary

Responsible for system-level SSD validation, performance and power characterization, thermal testing, and test automation for Micron storage products. Works with firmware, hardware, and system teams to bring platforms to validation readiness and ensure product reliability at scale.

Experience Level

Senior β€” requires 7+ years of relevant experience in SSD/storage validation, system bring-up, and platform-level testing.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include planning and executing validation campaigns, automating tests, and diagnosing system-level issues.

  • Develop and execute validation test plans for functional, power, performance, and thermal verification of SSDs.
  • Design, implement, and maintain test automation frameworks to scale validation coverage and efficiency.
  • Perform power and performance characterization using industry-standard tools (e.g., Quarch).
  • Execute thermal validation using ESPEC chambers and analyze system behavior under stress conditions.
  • Lead system bring-up, platform debugging, and validation readiness for new hardware and lab environments.
  • Collaborate with firmware, hardware, and system engineering teams to triage issues and drive root-cause analysis.
  • Support large-scale lab execution and ensure test systems (SUTs) are configured and maintained for validation runs.
  • Continuously improve validation methodologies, tools, and processes to increase coverage and reduce cycle time.
  • Apply AI-enabled tools and automation workflows for log analysis, failure triage, reporting, and data-driven insights where appropriate.

Requirements

Core technical skills and domain experience required; preferred items listed separately.

Must-have:

  • 7+ years of SSD/storage validation experience.
  • Strong understanding of system architecture including CPU, memory, PCIe, NVMe, and OS interactions.
  • Hands-on experience with power and performance testing and analysis.
  • Experience using Quarch tools for power measurement and characterization.
  • Experience with thermal validation using ESPEC chambers or equivalent environmental testing equipment.
  • Proficient scripting and automation skills (Python preferred).
  • Experience in system bring-up, platform-level debugging, and validation readiness activities.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and effective cross-functional communication.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience operating large-scale lab infrastructure and execution platforms.
  • Familiarity with enterprise SSD validation and PCIe Gen4/Gen5 platforms.
  • Proven use of AI/ML tools to accelerate test automation, log analysis, and failure triage.
