Senior Engineer II - Verification Engineer
MicrochipJob Title
Senior Engineer II - Verification Engineer
Role Summary
Lead pre-silicon verification for next-generation FPGA platforms, developing C/C++-based test frameworks, firmware-driven environments, and simulation flows. Collaborate with RTL designers, architects, firmware and validation teams to ensure functional coverage and early bug detection across complex FPGA/SoC designs.
Own verification activities from planning through closure, mentor junior engineers, and improve verification methodologies and automation.
Experience Level
Senior-level; typically requires 8+ years of FPGA/ASIC functional verification experience.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include designing and executing verification strategies, debugging RTL/firmware interactions, and driving verification closure.
- Develop and execute C/C++-based test frameworks and firmware-driven verification environments.
- Implement simulation-based verification flows and hardware/software co-verification methodologies.
- Build and maintain SystemVerilog/UVM testbenches, BFMs, and protocol stacks for pre-silicon verification.
- Define functional coverage models, run regressions, analyze coverage gaps, and drive closure against verification goals.
- Debug RTL, firmware, and integration issues; analyze failures and provide actionable fixes.
- Collaborate with RTL designers, architects, firmware, and validation teams to validate real-world use cases.
- Mentor engineers, document best practices, and contribute to verification automation and process improvements.
- Maintain clear written and verbal technical communication in English.
Requirements
Required skills and experience for the role.
- 8+ years of experience in FPGA/ASIC functional verification with emphasis on embedded software-driven pre-silicon verification.
- Hands-on experience developing C/C++ testcases and verification frameworks for FPGA/SoC verification.
- Experience with RISC-V or ARM-based SoC/embedded CPU verification.
- Strong understanding of FPGA architectures, SoC subsystems, memory architectures, interrupts, DMA, and boot flows.
- Proficient scripting skills: Python, Shell, Perl, TCL.
- Experience with coverage-driven and assertion-based verification methodologies.
- Experience developing constrained-random and directed simulation testcases using SystemVerilog/UVM.
- Solid understanding of IC chip design flows and verification planning; ability to define and achieve verification goals.
- Strong analytical, debugging, and problem-solving skills; excellent English communication.
- No travel required.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
