Engineering Intern - VIP and Assertion Generation for Mixed-Signal IPs using AI Agents
NXP SemiconductorsJob Title
Engineering Intern - VIP and Assertion Generation for Mixed-Signal IPs using AI Agents
Role Summary
Internship within an R&D verification team working on digital and mixed-signal verification of complex integrated circuits. The intern will develop and evaluate an AI-assisted flow to generate reusable Verification IP (VIP), checkers and SystemVerilog assertions from functional specifications for digitally controlled mixed-signal IPs (e.g., DC/DC converters).
Experience Level
Entry-level (Internship). Intended for final-year engineering students or master's students; no specific years of professional experience required.
Responsibilities
The intern will contribute to definition, implementation and evaluation of an AI-assisted VIP generation flow. Key tasks include:
- Study and understand digitally controlled mixed-signal IPs (DC/DC converters): control loop, config registers, modes, protections.
- Analyze functional specifications to extract verifiable requirements, interfaces, control sequences and error conditions.
- Define methodology for automatic or semi-automatic generation of VIPs and test artifacts from specifications.
- Implement and integrate an AI agent to assist specification analysis and generate verification deliverables.
- Generate SystemVerilog/UVM templates: agents, monitors, checkers, scoreboards, sequences and coverage models.
- Produce generic SystemVerilog assertions for protocols, sequences, timing, forbidden states and fault responses.
- Integrate generated components into simulation environments and validate on representative examples.
- Document solution architecture, methodology, results and improvement opportunities.
Requirements
Required technical skills and attributes. Must-haves are listed first; nice-to-haves follow.
- Must-have: Solid foundations in digital design and verification (RTL, SystemVerilog), simulation and debug skills.
- Must-have: Ability to read technical specifications and extract verifiable requirements.
- Must-have: Good technical English for reading specs, writing documentation and presenting results.
- Must-have: Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, autonomy and ability to critically assess AI outputs.
- Nice-to-have: Knowledge of UVM concepts, experience or interest in mixed-signal IPs and DC/DC converters.
- Nice-to-have: Experience with Python for prototyping, agent orchestration or automation scripting.
- Nice-to-have: Interest or exposure to generative AI approaches, AI agents and technical document processing.
Education Requirements
Final-year Engineering school student or Master's student in Electronics, Microelectronics, Embedded Systems, Industrial Computing, Applied Artificial Intelligence or a related field; equivalent academic background is acceptable ("domaine équivalent").
