Senior Engineer II - Software
Role Summary
Join the NCS software solutions team to develop automated test frameworks, test suites, and validation for embedded firmware and device drivers, with a focus on USB products. Work primarily as an individual contributor, and lead test activities and cross-functional coordination when required.
Contribute to product quality, security, and reliability across the product lifecycle.
Experience Level
Senior; 8 to 12 years of relevant embedded software or test engineering experience.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include:
- Design and implement clean, maintainable test code and automated test frameworks for embedded and host-based environments.
- Develop and execute unit, API, integration, system-level, regression, and end-to-end tests for firmware and drivers.
- Define test strategies, coverage goals, and validation plans; architect test suites for functional, performance, and reliability testing.
- Perform white-box testing, negative/fault-injection testing, and robustness validation (power interruptions, malformed inputs, resets).
- Participate in threat modeling and security design reviews; ensure test coverage for identified risks and misuse cases.
- Support vulnerability workflows including CVE analysis, impact assessment, mitigation validation, and retesting.
- Integrate and maintain automated tests in CI/CD pipelines to improve execution efficiency and reliability.
- Collaborate with developers, architects, product managers, and QA teams across geographies to ensure quality delivery.
Requirements
Must-have skills and experience:
- Strong programming skills in C, C++, C# or Python for developing test code and tools.
- Hands-on experience with 8-bit and/or 32-bit microcontrollers and embedded development environments.
- Experience with peripheral interfaces such as USB, PCIe, SPI, I2C, UART.
- Proficiency with debugging, logging, defect tracking, and version control tools (Git).
- Use of logic analyzers, protocol analyzers, and other embedded validation equipment.
- Familiarity with software testing fundamentals and the software development lifecycle (SDLC).
- Exposure to CI/CD tools (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps) and integrating tests into pipelines.
- Strong communication, analytical, and stakeholder engagement skills.
Nice-to-have / Desired:
- API testing and automation experience.
- Exposure to RTOS, Linux, or macOS environments.
- Experience with static analysis tools (PC-Lint, Coverity) and embedded security testing (secure boot, firmware integrity).
- Familiarity with embedded performance analysis tools and RTOS profiling utilities.
- Experience optimizing test infrastructure and test data management.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's degree in ECE, CSE, or EEE.
