Senior Engineer I - Applications
Role Summary
Member of the Applications team in Microchip's Security and Computing Group focused on embedded firmware for secure computing products. Responsible for customer onboarding, technical support, firmware testing, system integration, and cross-functional collaboration to enable product adoption.
Experience Level
Senior-level. Preferred 5 to 7.5 years of experience in firmware development and testing for embedded systems, microprocessors, or microcontrollers.
Responsibilities
The role combines hands-on firmware work, customer-facing support, and cross-team integration tasks.
- Develop, test, and improve embedded firmware for secure computing products.
- Onboard customers to secure Platform Root Of Trust devices and provide technical guidance.
- Perform hardware integration testing, system integration, troubleshooting, and verification/validation.
- Provide technical demos, clarify customer questions, and present solutions to prospects and customers.
- Manage and resolve customer issues using a ticketing system (e.g., Salesforce) and ensure timely communication.
- Contribute to internal development efforts, customer application notes, and product documentation to support adoption.
- Coordinate work across multi-site, cross-functional teams.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience for an individual contributor, hands-on role.
- Strong C programming skills in embedded environments.
- Proven firmware development and testing experience for embedded systems, microprocessors, or microcontrollers.
- Experience scripting in Python.
- Familiar with ARM architecture, Linux, and command-line build tools.
- Experience with deployment, verification, and validation of embedded software products.
- Proficient with embedded debugging tools (oscilloscopes, debuggers, protocol analyzers).
- Knowledge of I2C, SPI, and other networking or real-time streaming protocols.
- Strong problem-solving, debugging skills, and professional communication; ability to multitask and work in teams.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with basic cryptography and security algorithms.
- Experience with Chromium EC firmware, Zephyr Project, or FreeRTOS.
- Familiarity with MPLAB/KIEL IDEs and toolchains.
- Experience with Azure and IoT platforms.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related technical field. The posting specifies 5 to 7.5 years of relevant firmware development and testing experience.
