Job Title

Senior Engineer, Firmware & Product Test Engineering

Role Summary

The Senior Engineer in Firmware & Product Testing validates enterprise SSD firmware through test development, automation, execution, and failure analysis. The role focuses on NVMe front-end features and customer specifications and applies Python-based automation and data-driven techniques to improve test efficiency and product quality. Works with firmware test engineers, senior mentors, and data scientists to scale validation and enable AI/ML-enhanced testing.

Experience Level

Senior-level; typically requires 3+ years of relevant experience in SSD firmware testing, firmware validation, or firmware development.

Responsibilities

Accountabilities include designing and executing firmware tests, automation, and failure analysis across product lifecycle stages.

  • Develop and implement SSD firmware test strategies for development, qualification, and sustaining phases.
  • Design and implement tests for firmware features, NVMe protocols, security capabilities, and system behaviors.
  • Build and maintain Python-based automation, regression frameworks, and test coverage reporting.
  • Execute regression suites and analyze failures from regressions, customer issues, and field returns to identify root cause and drive resolution.
  • Collaborate with firmware, hardware, and cross-functional teams on validation, debug, and design reviews.
  • Contribute to AI-enabled process improvements and data-driven testing methodologies.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience.

  • 3+ years experience in SSD firmware testing, firmware validation, or firmware development.
  • Strong knowledge of NVMe architecture, storage protocols, PCIe, and host-to-device interactions.
  • Proficient in Python for test automation and data-driven analysis; experience building regression frameworks.
  • Experience debugging firmware issues and analyzing hardware/firmware interactions.
  • Effective problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Preferred: experience with SSD security validation (TCG Opal, Enterprise SSC, NVMe security commands, SPDM, DICE/CMA, secure boot), cryptographic technologies (AES, RSA, ECC, SHA-2/3), scalable validation infrastructure, CI/CD test execution, and technical leadership across global teams.
  • Note: Candidates with 2–3 years and strong Python/test development skills may be considered for more junior roles.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
