Job Title
Senior Engineer, Firmware & Product Test
Role Summary
The Senior Engineer on the Firmware & Product Test (FPT) team validates enterprise SSD firmware through test development, automation, execution, and failure analysis. The role emphasizes NVMe front-end features, customer specifications, and Python-based automated test frameworks.
Work with firmware engineers, senior mentors, and AI/ML contributors to improve test coverage, efficiency, and product quality via data-driven and AI-assisted techniques.
Experience Level
Senior-level (E3). The posting indicates approximately 3+ years of relevant experience.
Responsibilities
Deliver verification, automation, and analysis to ensure SSD firmware meets specifications and quality targets.
- Develop and execute firmware verification plans for NVMe front-end features and enterprise SSD customer specifications (e.g., SMART, Trim, Get Log Page, OCP compliance).
- Design, implement, and maintain automated test solutions and frameworks using Python to increase coverage and regression efficiency.
- Apply white-box, grey-box, and black-box testing methodologies across simulation, FPGA prototyping, and hardware platforms.
- Investigate test failures, perform root-cause analysis, and document findings with cross-functional teams.
- Communicate validation results, quality metrics, risks, and mitigation plans to stakeholders.
- Participate in code reviews and continuous improvement of automation quality and maintainability.
- Leverage AI-assisted tools and collaborate with data scientists to develop intelligent automation for anomaly detection and failure analysis.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience; preferred items listed separately.
- Strong Python programming for automation, scripting, and data analysis (experience with NumPy and pandas).
- Solid understanding of software testing fundamentals: test automation, debugging, validation methodologies, and regression testing.
- Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to investigate complex technical issues and interpret data-driven results.
- Experience or demonstrated interest in Artificial Intelligence and AI-assisted development workflows (LLMs, prompt engineering, AI tools).
Nice-to-have:
- Familiarity with NVMe protocols, SSD firmware validation, embedded systems, or hardware testing concepts.
- Exposure to machine learning frameworks (TensorFlow, PyTorch, scikit-learn) and anomaly detection or predictive analytics techniques.
- Experience with software development best practices: Git, CI/CD pipelines, code reviews, and agile methodologies.
- Experience integrating Generative AI, LLMs, or AI copilots into development or test automation workflows.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree (plus ~3+ years relevant experience) or a Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
