Job Title
Senior Engineer, Firmware & Product Test
Role Summary
The Senior Engineer on the Firmware & Product Test (FPT) team validates enterprise SSD firmware through test development, automation, execution, and failure analysis. The role focuses on NVMe front-end features and customer specifications, using Python-based automation and data-driven techniques to improve test coverage and product quality.
Experience Level
Senior-level (E3). The posting references approximately 3+ years of relevant experience in common qualification language for this level.
Responsibilities
Primary duties include developing verification plans, implementing automated tests, executing validation runs, and driving failure analysis and reporting.
- Develop and execute firmware verification plans for enterprise SSD customer specifications and NVMe front-end features (e.g., SMART, Trim, Get Log Page, OCP compliance).
- Design, implement, and maintain automated test solutions using Python and FPT frameworks to improve coverage and regression efficiency.
- Apply white-box, grey-box, and black-box testing methodologies across simulation, FPGA prototyping, and hardware platforms.
- Investigate test failures, perform root cause analysis, and document findings while collaborating with firmware and cross-functional teams.
- Communicate validation results, quality metrics, risks, and mitigation plans to stakeholders and management.
- Participate in code reviews and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance automation quality and maintainability.
- Leverage AI-assisted development tools and AI-driven workflows to accelerate test creation, debugging, data analysis, and reporting.
- Collaborate with firmware engineers, data scientists, and AI/ML practitioners to develop intelligent automation for anomaly detection and workflow optimization.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills are listed first; preferred skills follow.
-
Must-have: Strong Python programming skills for automation and scripting, including data analysis with libraries such as NumPy and pandas.
-
Must-have: Solid understanding of software testing fundamentals: test automation, debugging, validation methodologies, and regression testing.
-
Must-have: Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills to investigate complex technical issues and interpret data-driven results.
-
Must-have: Experience or demonstrated interest in Artificial Intelligence and AI-assisted development (LLMs, prompt engineering, or AI-assisted workflows).
-
Nice-to-have: Experience with NVMe protocols, SSD firmware validation, embedded systems, or hardware testing concepts.
-
Nice-to-have: Exposure to machine learning frameworks (TensorFlow, PyTorch, scikit-learn) and anomaly detection or predictive analytics.
-
Nice-to-have: Familiarity with software development best practices: Git, CI/CD, code reviews, and agile methodologies.
-
Nice-to-have: Experience building or integrating AI-powered automation using Generative AI, agentic frameworks, or AI copilots; hands-on use of tools like GitHub Copilot or Microsoft Copilot.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree (approx. 3+ years of relevant experience typical) or a Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering, or a related technical field; equivalent practical experience is acceptable.
