Job Title

Senior Engineer, Design Evaluation Engineering

Role Summary

Develop and maintain evaluation and validation test solutions for high-performance analog and mixed-signal integrated circuits. Work on hardware and software test systems used for characterization, qualification, and correlation to design simulations and production tests.

Work with design, layout, application, and failure-analysis teams; participate in new product development and support products after release. Partial telecommute benefit: up to 2 days/week work from home.

Experience Level

Senior-level. The posting requires a minimum of three years of relevant experience as a Design Evaluation Engineer or in a related role.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities for this role include designing and executing lab evaluation solutions and supporting product release and post-release activities.

  • Design, develop, debug, and maintain hardware and software evaluation test solutions for characterization and qualification in a lab environment.
  • Define evaluation test methodologies, test plans, and test modes in collaboration with design engineers.
  • Create evaluation test schematics and coordinate PCB layout with layout engineers.
  • Develop and improve test programs to correlate bench results with design simulations and production test programs.
  • Support application teams (local and offshore) and Failure Analysis on customer returns and post-release issues; replicate customer setups when deeper analysis is required.
  • Participate in New Product Development teams and evaluate new test systems for future products.
  • Compile, analyze, and present test data to designers; manage project schedules aligned to product introductions and releases.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience for successful execution of the role.

  • Minimum three years of experience as a Design Evaluation Engineer or similar role automating tests with high-speed, high-precision lab equipment.
  • Hands-on experience with high-speed oscilloscopes, high-speed probes, network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, VNAs, signal generators, BERTs, source measurement units, and temperature chambers.
  • Expertise in characterizing MIPI D-PHY and C-PHY analog TX/RX behavior, including low-power/high-speed timing, eye/jitter evaluation, differential/common-mode voltage measurements, and impedance/S-parameter checks using oscilloscopes and high-speed probes.
  • RF/Signal-Integrity experience for high-speed characterization board design and debug, including VNA-based S-parameter/return-loss measurements, de-embedding, controlled-impedance stack-up review, and TDR where applicable.
  • Experience organizing and executing bench-based characterization efforts and critical tests not run in production setups.
  • Practical bench-hardware troubleshooting skills (ESD-safe handling, soldering/rework, use of hand tools, familiarity with fastener sizes, RF fixtures, SMA connections, attenuators, splitters, terminations, bias-tees).
  • Programming skills in C#, C++, Visual Studio, or Python to automate test hardware and measurement flows.
  • Experience with PCB schematic capture and layout tools (for example OrCAD or Cadence Allegro).
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Outlook) for data analysis and reporting.
  • Knowledge of signal-processing techniques and analog/digital conversion to validate datasheet electrical specifications.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a relevant technical discipline is required; foreign education equivalent is acceptable.
