Senior Engineer, CPU Software Test Engineer (Server)

Role Summary

Responsible for designing, developing, executing and maintaining software and firmware test suites to validate server CPU platforms. Works with system, hardware, architecture and test teams to verify features, performance, and production readiness for data-center/server products.

Experience Level

Senior. Minimum experience levels depend on education (see Education Requirements). Programming experience of at least 3 years with languages such as C, C++, Java, or Python is expected.

Responsibilities

Accountable for quality verification across component, integration and system levels and for enabling production-ready software deliveries.

• Create software/firmware test plans with requirements traceability and test coverage.
• Design, develop, execute and maintain automated test suites for functional, integration and system verification.
• Perform manual testing of installation and deployment experiences for hardware and software on compute, mobile and automotive platforms when appropriate.
• Establish and improve Quality Engineering and Release Engineering processes with emphasis on CI/CD.
• Support production readiness: implement customer use-cases, develop workload models, create workloads, and assist with bring-up, debugging and diagnostics.
• Collaborate with SW/HW teams to validate reference platform requirements at component, integration and system levels.
• Identify opportunities to improve power and performance in existing OS and customer usage environments.

Requirements

Key technical skills and experience required and preferred for effective performance in this role.

Must-have:

• 3+ years programming experience in C, C++, Java, Python or similar languages; strong skills in C and/or Python preferred.
• Experience designing, developing and maintaining automated software/firmware test suites, including test automation techniques.
• Experience with server platforms, supporting bring-up and production software releases.
• Familiarity with server operating systems such as Ubuntu Server, RHEL, SUSE or Windows Server.
• Experience with CI/CD and release engineering practices for software/firmware validation.
• Proven ability to work across multiple engineering teams (software, firmware, hardware, architecture).

Nice-to-have / Preferred:

• 5+ years of software/firmware validation experience, ideally focused on data-center servers.
• Experience with BIOS/UEFI, BMC firmware and OS integration for x86, ARM64 or RISC-V server platforms.
• Familiarity with server firmware standards and open-source implementations.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science or a related field plus 6+ years of software engineering or related experience; OR Master's degree in those fields plus 5+ years of experience; OR PhD in those fields plus 4+ years of experience. Fields listed include Engineering, Information Systems and Computer Science (related technical degrees acceptable as described above).
