Job Title

Senior Embedded Software Engineer - TeraWave Customer Terminals

Role Summary

Design, develop, and optimize firmware for a next-generation satellite user terminal focused on real-time beam steering, transceiver control, and high-throughput data routing. The role sits at the hardware–software boundary and delivers robust bare-metal or RTOS-based firmware for complex RF and communication systems.

Experience Level

Senior — requires 7+ years of professional embedded software development experience, especially with high-speed communications, radar, networking, or aerospace hardware.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Design and implement modular, reliable embedded C/C++ firmware for resource-constrained microcontrollers, FPGAs, or SoCs.
  • Develop low-level software to program, calibrate, and update phase registers across large arrays of Beamforming ICs for microsecond-level electronic beam steering.
  • Write and debug peripheral drivers (SPI, I2C, UART, PCIe, Ethernet) for transceivers, RF front-ends, and baseband processors.
  • Optimize embedded networking (TCP/IP, UDP, DHCP, VLAN) for ultra-low latency and maximum throughput between satellite network and local gateways.
  • Implement real-time thermal throttling, power-saving states, and automated fault-protection logic for high-power outdoor electronics.
  • Develop secure bootloaders, cryptographic verification, and resilient over-the-air (OTA) firmware update mechanisms.
  • Collaborate with hardware, systems, and test teams to isolate hardware vs. software issues and integrate firmware into production systems.

Requirements

Must-have:

  • 7+ years in embedded software development on high-speed communications, radar, networking, or aerospace hardware.
  • Expert-level proficiency in modern C and C++ for embedded systems.
  • Deep experience with Real-Time Operating Systems (e.g., FreeRTOS, Zephyr, VxWorks) and/or Embedded Linux.
  • Proven ability to write and debug low-level peripheral drivers and manage high-throughput data paths.
  • Strong skills with lab tools (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, JTAG debuggers) and reading complex electrical schematics and datasheets.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience controlling phased array antennas, digital beamformers, or direct-RF sampling transceivers.
  • Experience with Yocto or Buildroot and cross-compiling custom Embedded Linux distributions.
  • Familiarity with hardware security features (TPM, TrustZone, secure enclaves) and secure firmware delivery.
  • Experience with HIL testing, CI pipelines for firmware, satellite communications, SDN/NFV, and formal verification methods.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
