Senior Embedded Firmware Developer

Role Summary

Senior embedded firmware engineer on the software team developing full firmware stacks for Microchip-designed Ethernet switch SoCs used in automotive applications. Work focuses on application-layer features, management interfaces, protocol support and safety-related functionality.

Collaborate with local teams (drivers, RTL/hardware) and global NCS teams across design, verification and systems to deliver standards-driven, production-quality firmware.

Responsibilities

Main responsibilities include design, implementation and verification across the firmware lifecycle:

  • Develop application-layer embedded C firmware for Ethernet switch products.
  • Gather requirements, produce specifications, implement, test and document features.
  • Implement management interfaces, Layer 2 protocols and safety/security features.
  • Work within standards-driven processes (ASPICE, ISO 26262, MISRA, IEC 62443).
  • Optimize for constrained resources and fast boot times.
  • Collaborate with low-level driver teams, hardware/RTL engineers and global product teams.
  • Mentor junior engineers and optionally lead architecture, feature or FuSA/security efforts.
  • Contribute to process improvements, standardization and engagement with industry bodies.

Requirements

  • Must-have: Strong proficiency in C and embedded software development.
  • Experience with requirements specification and standards-driven development processes.
  • Ability to work independently and in cross-functional teams; strong English communication skills.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience with Ethernet, CoAP, CORECONF/YANG, PTP.
  • Familiarity with software security, GIT, MISRA, ASPICE and functional safety standards.
  • Exposure to standardization work or industry bodies.
