Job Title

Senior Electrical Engineer – DSP ASIC/FPGA

Role Summary

Senior engineer on the Applied Research and Technology team responsible for designing and implementing signal processing algorithms on FPGA and ASIC platforms for aerospace and defense systems. Work includes algorithm development, hardware integration, performance optimization, and cross-functional collaboration.

Experience Level

Senior. The posting specifies degree-based experience guidance: a STEM degree with 5 years of relevant experience or an advanced degree with 3 years; the role also cites a minimum of 3 years professional experience in signal processing or FPGA/ASIC development.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include designing, implementing, and validating DSP solutions on FPGA/ASIC hardware and leading technical efforts.

  • Develop and implement signal processing algorithms for FPGA and ASIC systems.
  • Model and simulate DSP systems using Simulink (and MATLAB where applicable).
  • Design, test, and validate DSP algorithms in collaboration with hardware, software, and systems engineers.
  • Optimize FPGA implementations for performance, power, and area constraints.
  • Perform system-level analysis and testing to verify requirements.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and lead design teams.
  • Integrate signal-processing solutions with adjacent hardware and software components.
  • Keep current with FPGA technologies and signal-processing methodologies.

Requirements

Minimum technical and clearance requirements; candidates should meet the must-have items below.

  • Must-have: U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government secret security clearance.
  • Must-have: Minimum of 3 years professional experience in signal processing or FPGA/ASIC development.
  • Must-have: Expertise with Simulink and/or MATLAB for DSP modeling and simulation.
  • Must-have: Proficiency in HDL (VHDL or Verilog) for FPGA/ASIC design and implementation.
  • Must-have: Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills for FPGA/ASIC and DSP systems.
  • Must-have: Experience with high-speed digital interfaces and protocols (e.g., DDR, PCIe, Ethernet).
  • Nice-to-have: Familiarity with HDL Coder and model-based code generation.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience with hardware-software co-design and algorithm optimization for constrained hardware.

Education Requirements

Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) with 5 years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree with 3 years of relevant experience. (The posting also states a minimum of 3 years professional experience in signal processing or FPGA/ASIC development.)
