Job Title
Senior Electrical Engineer – ASIC/FPGA
Role Summary
Design, implement, verify, and integrate high-performance digital ASICs and FPGAs for aerospace and defense applications. Serve as a technical lead on project teams, driving architecture, RTL development, verification, timing closure, and system integration.
Position is based in Cedar Rapids, IA and supports programs requiring an active U.S. government security clearance and U.S. citizenship.
Experience Level
Senior — typically 5+ years relevant experience, or 3+ years with an advanced degree (per hiring qualifications).
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include end-to-end digital design and project leadership.
- Capture requirements and define ASIC/FPGA digital architecture and implementation strategy.
- Develop RTL, perform timing analysis and closure, and complete verification activities.
- Integrate designs into system-level hardware and validate in lab environments.
- Recommend and adopt tools and practices to improve the ASIC/FPGA design flow.
- Contribute to engineering estimates for new program pursuits and provide technical leadership by delegating work, planning activities, and reporting status.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills, security eligibility, and practical experience.
- Active and transferable U.S. government security clearance required prior to start date.
- U.S. citizenship required for clearance eligibility.
- Hands-on RTL coding and simulation experience in Verilog or VHDL.
- Experience in digital circuit architecture, resource tradeoffs, timing analysis, and timing closure.
- Testbench development experience for RTL verification using SystemVerilog.
- Proficient with ASIC/FPGA simulation and synthesis tools (examples: ModelSim, Synplify, Quartus, Vivado).
- Familiarity with revision control concepts and tools (examples: Git, Subversion).
Nice-to-have:
- Chip-level verification techniques (constrained random, functional coverage).
- ASIC/FPGA lab validation experience and familiarity with advanced lab equipment.
- Design for Test (DFT) and manufacturability experience.
- Experience with Unix and scripting; knowledge of C/C++ and/or Perl.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in a STEM field (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) with a minimum of 5 years relevant experience, or an advanced degree with a minimum of 3 years relevant experience.
