Senior EDA Tools Hardware Engineer
Intel CorporationJob Title
Senior EDA Tools Hardware Engineer
Role Summary
Develop and maintain transistor-level timing characterization flows and CAD infrastructure for custom IP, embedded memories, SRAMs, register files, and compiler-generated macros across advanced semiconductor technologies. Work with circuit, memory, STA, and methodology teams to enable silicon-accurate timing, power, and noise modeling.
Experience Level
Senior-level. The role expects multiple years of industry experience in EDA/timing characterization; the posting lists specific experience thresholds by degree (see Education Requirements). The position also expects at least 3+ years working with timing characterization tools.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include:
- Develop, test, and analyze EDA tools, flows, and methodologies to improve efficiency and optimize power and performance.
- Develop transistor-level timing characterization flows and generate/validate Liberty timing models for custom macros and memory IPs.
- Collaborate with EDA vendors to define, evaluate, and test next-generation tools and flows (e.g., Synopsys NanoTime, Cadence Liberate).
- Create and verify hardware designs and integrate components into hierarchical systems for end-to-end EDA tool testing.
- Maintain and enhance platforms, databases, scripts, and automation used for design automation in Linux environments.
- Support STA, full-chip integration, physical layout, power/performance/clocking, and timing for technology development.
Requirements
Must-have skills and experience; preferred items listed separately.
- 3+ years experience with timing characterization methodologies and tools (examples: NanoTime, Liberate, PrimeLib).
- Experience with Liberty timing models and model validation.
- Experience developing or maintaining CAD infrastructure and large-scale automation (scripting) in Linux environments.
- Familiarity with STA fundamentals, power/performance/timing analysis, and full-chip integration.
Nice-to-have:
- SPICE simulation and transistor-level characterization experience.
- Knowledge of CMOS circuits and memory architecture fundamentals.
- Experience with advanced-node custom IP or memory characterization flows.
Education Requirements
One of the following degree-and-experience combinations is expected: Bachelor's in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field with 6+ years relevant experience; OR Master’s in those fields with 4+ years relevant experience; OR Ph.D. in those fields with 2+ years relevant experience. Qualifications may also be met through a combination of industry experience, internships, coursework, or research.
