Senior Director of Engineering (Networking Product)
Role Summary
Senior engineering leader responsible for defining packet processing engine (PPE) requirements and architecture for networking products. Leads cross-functional teams (design, verification, validation, software, product management) to convert product objectives into PPE architectural designs and ensure implementation aligns with performance, power, cost, and feature targets.
Experience Level
Senior β typically 12+ years of relevant experience; preferred 15+ years. Prior technical leadership overseeing multi-discipline teams is expected.
Responsibilities
Lead PPE architecture and cross-team execution for networking features and platforms:
- Define PPE requirements (performance, power, cost, features) driven by product and automotive/TSN needs.
- Design and evolve PPE forwarding-plane architecture for complex features and performance targets.
- Translate PdM and software objectives into architectural designs and enablement plans for Design/DV/VI/SW teams.
- Drive DE/DV efforts to improve coverage, perform model-to-DV translation, and resolve systemic issues.
- Oversee simulations and analyses of power, performance, and KPIs at the PPE level and feed results into requirements and architecture decisions.
- Track industry developments and integrate technical innovations to improve PPE/networking engine effectiveness.
- Support software teams for system-level bring-up and feature enablement related to PPE.
- Ensure clear technical documentation, specifications, and design reviews across teams.
Requirements
Key skills and attributes required (must-haves first):
- Proven experience translating product and software requirements into PPE or datapath architectural designs and enabling implementation teams (Design/DV/SW).
- Deep networking datapath / packet-processing architecture and design expertise.
- Strong leadership, cross-functional influence, and ability to drive technical decisions across teams.
- Excellent system-level debugging and problem-solving skills.
- Fluent written and verbal communication in Chinese and English.
- Ability to work under tight schedules and stressful situations to meet program goals.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience interacting with senior leadership (VP level and above).
- Prior experience managing teams with direct reports in technical leadership roles.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or higher in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field. Qualcomm prefers MS or higher for senior roles.
