Senior Director, Manufacturing Software Engineering
LumilensJob Title
Senior Director, Manufacturing Software Engineering
Role Summary
Lead strategy, development, and execution of manufacturing software and test systems for high-volume production of optical transceivers and photonic devices. Build software infrastructure that drives yield, test, calibration, MES integration, and production efficiency across wafer-level test to system validation.
This senior leadership role partners with photonics, ASIC, hardware, operations, and external manufacturing partners to scale NPI to HVM and meet hyperscaler requirements.
Experience Level
Senior-level: 15+ years of software engineering experience with significant focus on manufacturing, test, or production systems; 5+ years managing engineering teams.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include defining roadmap, building scalable test and data infrastructure, and ensuring production and customer readiness.
- Define and lead the manufacturing software roadmap for optical transceivers and photonic devices.
- Architect scalable test, calibration, and data platforms for NPI and high-volume manufacturing.
- Develop software for wafer probe, module test, system validation, and final test; integrate with MES and factory automation.
- Implement data-driven yield analysis, failure detection, and root-cause methodologies to improve yield and throughput.
- Build and deploy automated test and calibration systems, including DSP tuning and optical alignment, plus telemetry and traceability systems.
- Support customer qualifications, audits, and production ramp readiness for hyperscaler customers.
- Collaborate with foundries, OSATs, contract manufacturers, supply chain, and operations to standardize infrastructure and ensure capacity.
- Recruit, build, and mentor a high-performing software manufacturing and test engineering team; establish development, release, and deployment best practices.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience.
- 15+ years in software engineering focused on manufacturing, test, or production systems for semiconductor, photonics, or hardware products.
- 5+ years of leadership experience managing engineering teams.
- Proven experience supporting NPI to HVM, including yield ramp and production scaling.
- Experience working with contract manufacturers, OSATs, and global manufacturing partners.
- Strong programming skills in Python, C/C++, or similar for automation, test, and data systems.
- Experience with MES systems, manufacturing analytics, and data pipelines.
- Deep understanding of manufacturing KPIs: yield, throughput, cycle time, cost, and quality.
- Nice-to-have: experience with optical transceivers and high-speed modules (400G–1.6T), silicon photonics, or advanced packaging.
- Nice-to-have: experience building factory automation, DSP-based calibration flows, and large-scale test infrastructure.
- Nice-to-have: prior work supporting hyperscalers or Tier 1 data-center customers and experience in fast-paced startup environments.
Education Requirements
Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
