Job Title

Senior Director, IP and Custom Circuits Development

Role Summary

Lead Microsoft’s custom IP and analog/mixed-signal circuits development for SoC teams, focusing on delivering high-quality, production-ready IP (e.g., high-speed D2D, SRAMs, register files) to support cloud and AI infrastructure. This is a people-management role working across design, architecture, and manufacturing teams to define strategy, prioritize build-vs-buy, and ensure on-time delivery at scale.

Experience Level

Senior / Director-level management role. Leadership and broad technical experience at director/head level; see Education Requirements for formal years-of-experience combinations used in minimum qualifications.

Responsibilities

Lead and operate a team responsible for developing custom IP and ensuring delivery to internal SoC teams.

  • Manage and grow a team designing custom IP (high-speed D2D, SRAMs, register files, register files, custom analog/mixed-signal blocks).
  • Ensure high quality and on-time delivery of IP to SoC teams and programs.
  • Define IP strategy, including build-vs-buy decisions and identification of new differentiating IP opportunities.
  • Collaborate closely with SoC design, architecture, and senior technical experts to define IP requirements.
  • Drive initiatives to strengthen the team, attract talent, and scale cross-site operations.

Requirements

Non-education must-haves and preferred technical/leadership capabilities. Education and explicit years are summarized separately under Education Requirements.

  • Must-have: Proven record of leading custom IP or mixed-signal circuit development teams and delivering production-qualified IP.
  • Must-have: Strong program management skills for complex, multi-site IP projects and ability to coordinate cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Must-have: Ability to meet Microsoft security and export-control screening requirements required for the role.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience leading High-Speed Serial and/or Parallel IO architecture and design.
  • Nice-to-have: Familiarity with SRAM and register file design, mixed-signal IP test chips, verification and post-silicon characterization.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience managing large, cross-site organizations and multi-disciplined engineering teams.

Education Requirements

Minimum qualification structure: Doctorate in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field plus 7+ years technical engineering experience; OR Master's degree in those fields plus 10+ years; OR Bachelor's degree plus 12+ years; OR equivalent practical experience. Fields called out include Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, and Computer Science.
