Senior Digital Design Engineer, SoC and AI
RenesasJob Title
Senior Digital Design Engineer, SoC and AI
Role Summary
Lead digital SoC design activities and take technical ownership of internal AI-assisted engineering tools used across the IC design flow. Work with cross-functional teams to deliver mixed-signal SoC products from specification through silicon and production.
Primary mission: integrate AI/LLM capabilities into requirements/specification workflows and maintain the internal tooling that automates specification, RTL development, and verification tasks.
Experience Level
Senior - typically requires 5+ years of relevant digital IC/SoC design experience, including delivery of silicon from specification to production.
Responsibilities
Deliver technical ownership of tools and perform hands-on digital design work; collaborate with domain teams to ensure SoC integration and product validation.
- Own and maintain internal engineering tools: enhance codebase, fix defects, manage documentation, releases, and support users.
- Develop and validate AI-assisted workflows that convert product requirements into discipline-specific specifications with traceability and change management.
- Build automated tests and review processes to verify completeness, consistency, and correctness of generated specifications and outputs.
- Translate system and product requirements into digital specifications and micro-architectures; develop RTL in Verilog/SystemVerilog.
- Integrate embedded processors, memories, peripherals, register maps, and on-chip buses into mixed-signal SoCs.
- Execute lint, CDC/RDC analysis, synthesis, static timing analysis, low-power design, and support physical implementation and timing closure.
- Collaborate with system, analog, verification, firmware, and physical design teams on integration, clock/reset architectures, design reviews, and verification planning.
- Support silicon bring-up, lab debugging, and product validation through transition to volume production.
Requirements
Required technical skills, experience, and attributes.
Must-have
- Proven hands-on experience integrating AI-based tools into IC design workflows, with demonstrable implemented solutions (requirements engineering, specification generation, RTL, verification, or design-flow automation).
- 5+ years of relevant digital IC/SoC design experience, including delivery from specification to silicon.
- Strong practical experience with Verilog/SystemVerilog, RTL design, and digital subsystem integration.
- Solid understanding of SoC architectures: embedded processors, memories, peripherals, register architectures, and on-chip buses (e.g., AMBA AHB/APB).
- Experience with lint, CDC/RDC, synthesis, static timing analysis, timing closure, clock/reset architectures, and low-power techniques.
- Practical software-development skills: maintain and extend application codebases, version control, testing, debugging, documentation, and release management.
- Proficiency in Python (or comparable language) for automation; familiarity with Tcl is an advantage.
- Ability to take ongoing ownership of internal tools and to prioritize and resolve issues in collaboration with users.
- Experience collaborating across analog/mixed-signal, verification, firmware, and physical design, including silicon bring-up and debug.
- Strong analytical skills, clear communication, and ability to work effectively in an international engineering team; fluent English.
Nice-to-have
- Experience with mixed-signal SoCs for power-management or wireless-power applications and embedded MCU architectures.
- Experience developing LLM applications, model API integration, retrieval-augmented generation, and evaluating output quality/reliability.
- Familiarity with requirements-management systems, decomposition and traceability across engineering disciplines.
- Experience using AI to assist software development, including review, debugging, and testing of generated code.
Education Requirements
MSc or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Microelectronics, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
