Job Title

Senior Digital ASIC Architect

Role Summary

Lead architectural design and delivery of digital integrated circuits from concept through implementation, verification, and test. Work with multidisciplinary teams (analog, digital, verification, layout) to define chip-level requirements, perform system-level trade studies, and guide implementation to meet customer needs.

Experience Level

Senior level. Typical experience guidance provided (degree-dependent): see Education Requirements for the mapping of years to degree.

Responsibilities

Design, document, and drive ASIC architectures and ensure successful implementation and verification across disciplines.

  • Develop chip-level requirements and top-level architecture; produce interface and architectural documentation.
  • Perform system-on-chip trade studies between analog, digital, and software implementations.
  • Model and simulate designs using functional and circuit-level tools (e.g. MATLAB/Simulink, SystemVerilog, SystemC).
  • Design and simulate at transistor level and guide physical layout activities including floor-planning and extracted-parasitic simulation.
  • Review block-level designs, mentor designers, and adjust requirements across blocks as needed.
  • Participate in verification planning, test planning, and support top-level verification strategies.
  • Provide technical input to project planning and business development; present solutions to leadership and customers.

Requirements

Clear technical requirements and preferred skills for candidates. Degree details are summarized under Education Requirements below.

  • Proven proficiency in integrated circuit and ASIC design, including transistor-level and system-level design.
  • Experience with SOC-level design tradeoffs (performance, power, cost) and feasibility evaluation of algorithms in hardware vs software.
  • Familiarity with functional modeling and mixed-signal verification methodologies (SystemVerilog, SystemC, Verilog-AMS).
  • Ability to write detailed design specifications and communicate effectively in multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience managing or mentoring small technical teams and delivering technical presentations.
  • Scripting skills to automate design, implementation, verification, and test flows.
  • Experience with physical implementation activities (floor-planning, layout guidance, extracted-parasitic simulation).
  • Applicants selected for this position will be required to obtain and maintain a government security clearance.

Education Requirements

Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field. Master’s degree preferred; PhD acceptable. Experience guidance provided by the employer: 5–7 years of relevant experience with a bachelor’s degree, 3–5 years with a master’s degree, or 0–2 years with a PhD.
