Job Title

Senior DFT Engineer

Role Summary

Work on DFT architecture, verification, and post-silicon validation for complex semiconductor chips. Implement test access mechanisms, IO and memory BIST, scan compression, and deploy DFT methodologies across product teams.

Collaborate with RTL, timing, place-and-route, power, and silicon bring-up teams to ensure testability and quality trade-offs.

Experience Level

Senior β€” see Education Requirements for specific years-of-experience guidance (degree-dependent).

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include owning DFT design tasks, delivering methodologies, and mentoring engineering teams.

  • Design and implement test access mechanisms, IO BIST, memory BIST, and scan compression.
  • Develop and deploy DFT methodologies for next-generation products.
  • Work with cross-functional teams (RTL, clocks, STA, P&R, power) to make testability trade-offs.
  • Support post-silicon validation and silicon bring-up activities, including ATE-related considerations.
  • Mentor and guide junior engineers on test designs, trade-offs, cost, and quality.

Requirements

Key technical skills and experience required.

  • Expertise in defining scan test plans, BIST for memories and IOs, fault modeling, ATPG, and fault simulation.
  • Experience verifying and validating test patterns and logic on complex, multi-million-gate designs using vendor tools.
  • Experience with silicon debug and bring-up on ATE, including pattern formats, failure processing, and test program development.
  • Familiarity with RTL and clock design, static timing analysis, place-and-route, and power-aware trade-offs.
  • Strong scripting/programming skills (Perl, Python, or Tcl).
  • Excellent analytic, written, and oral communication skills.

Education Requirements

Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) with 8+ years, Master of Science in Electrical Engineering (MSEE) with 5+ years, or PhD with 3+ years in DFT or related domains; or equivalent practical experience.
