Job Title

Senior Design Verification Engineer

Role Summary

Join Microsoft’s AI Silicon Engineering (AISiE) SoC Design Verification team to design and execute verification environments and tests for AI accelerators at block, chip and system level. Collaborate with architecture, design, firmware, validation, and product teams to ensure functional correctness pre- and post-silicon.

Experience Level

Senior-level. Microsoft specifies degree/experience equivalencies (PhD +1 year, MS +4 years, BS +5 years) or equivalent practical experience.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include designing verification environments and driving test development to achieve full feature coverage.

  • Create complex verification environments and tests for pre-silicon functional verification at IP, chip and system levels.
  • Develop verification components such as scoreboards, sequences, constraints, assertions, and functional coverage.
  • Produce verification plans with strategy, test environments, and verification requirements in collaboration with architects and design engineers.
  • Debug and triage testbench, simulation, and emulation failures; perform reference modeling and post-silicon validation.
  • Develop automation (Makefiles, scripts) for scalable verification and apply Agile practices including code review and sprint planning.
  • Collaborate across distributed teams and sites.

Requirements

Must-have conditions and important role constraints.

  • Ability to meet Microsoft Cloud Background Check and periodic security screening requirements.
  • Eligibility to access export-controlled information; must provide proof of citizenship, U.S. residency, or other protected status as required for export compliance.
  • Demonstrated experience with verification workflows: simulation, emulation, debugging, and testbench development (preferred evidence in resume).
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally in a distributed team.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience creating simulation environments and tests for multiple silicon IPs or systems, chip/computer architecture knowledge.
  • Experience with SystemVerilog, UVM, Verilog/VHDL, C/C++, and scripting (Python, Ruby, Perl).
  • Experience with hardware emulation / FPGAs, firmware (secure/non-secure boot), or synthesizable RTL.

Education Requirements

Microsoft lists degree/experience equivalencies: Doctorate in EE/CE/CS or related field + 1 year technical engineering experience; Master’s in EE/CE/CS or related field + 4 years; Bachelor’s in EE/CE/CS or related field + 5 years; or equivalent practical experience. Preferred fields include Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical fields.
