Job Title

Senior CPU Silicon Analysis Engineer

Role Summary

Join Intel's architecture team to lead silicon characterization and analysis for CPU designs. The role owns silicon bring-up, lab maintenance, structured measurement campaigns, and the analysis that informs CPU roadmap and architectural decisions.

Work cross-functionally with architecture, benchmarking, backend design, and simulation teams to correlate lab results with pre-silicon models and drive root-cause analysis.

Experience Level

Senior - typically 8+ years of relevant industry experience.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include hands-on lab work, measurement campaign design, data analysis, and communicating results to engineering leadership.

  • Own and operate lab infrastructure for systematic silicon characterization, including bring-up, maintenance, and debug of pre-production and production platforms.
  • Plan and execute measurements across metrics such as performance, IPC, power, dynamic capacitance (Cdyn), leakage, voltage-frequency curves, and microarchitectural telemetry.
  • Design and run structured measurement campaigns across workloads, thermal and power envelopes, and operating conditions.
  • Analyze silicon data to identify power/performance gaps, anomalies, and opportunities versus architectural targets.
  • Collaborate with architecture, backend design, benchmarking, and simulation teams to correlate lab results with pre-silicon models and drive root-cause analysis.
  • Develop tooling, scripts, and automation to streamline data collection, processing, and reporting pipelines.
  • Produce technical reports and presentations for engineering leadership and cross-functional stakeholders.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills, lab experience, and analytical capabilities.

Must-have:

  • Hands-on experience with silicon lab environments: platform bring-up, debug, and instrumentation.
  • Experience collecting and analyzing silicon power and performance metrics (e.g., IPC, frequency, Cdyn, leakage, performance telemetry).
  • Proficiency in scripting for test automation and data analysis (Python, Bash, or similar).
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to derive actionable conclusions from complex, multi-dimensional silicon data sets.
  • Clear technical communication and ability to present findings to engineering peers and leadership.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience characterizing CPU silicon across multiple designs and operating conditions.
  • Familiarity with EMON/PMU-based profiling and OS-level performance tooling.
  • Understanding of CPU microarchitecture and backend concepts (voltage-frequency corners, leakage-frequency tradeoffs, process library characteristics).
  • Exposure to RTL simulation or pre-silicon performance modeling and correlation workflows.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline (with 8+ years relevant industry experience), or a Master's degree in a related discipline (with 6+ years relevant industry experience). Fields cited: Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical disciplines.
