Job Title

Senior CPU RTL Design Engineer

Role Summary

Design and deliver RTL logic for high-performance CPU microarchitectures, including integer, floating point, out-of-order execution and reservation station logic. Work on microarchitecture definition, RTL coding, simulation, and optimization to meet power, performance, area, and timing targets. This role provides technical leadership within a CPU design team and collaborates closely with architecture and backend teams.

Experience Level

Senior β€” requires substantial prior experience; posting specifies multi-year experience expectations (see Education Requirements and Requirements for details).

Responsibilities

Core responsibilities include RTL design, verification liaison, performance tuning, and technical leadership.

  • Develop RTL code, simulations, and logic design for CPU functional units and IP blocks.
  • Contribute to architecture and microarchitecture feature definition.
  • Optimize logic for power, performance, area, and timing; support physical implementation constraints.
  • Review verification plans, debug failing RTL tests, and implement corrective measures.
  • Provide technical leadership and propose methodology/process improvements.
  • Collaborate with architecture, backend, and other design teams to integrate CPU IP into full chips.
  • Cultivate a strong engineering organization and mentor team members.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills, experience, and leadership capabilities. Education details are summarized under Education Requirements below.

  • 6+ years experience in silicon development in CPU microarchitecture and logic design.
  • 5+ years of technical leadership delivering IP projects.
  • Experience with timing closure, power convergence, and physical implementation trade-offs.
  • Hands-on experience with RTL coding, simulation, and verification workflows.
  • Domain expertise in integer and/or floating point units, out-of-order execution, and reservation station design.
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills; ability to work in fast-paced collaborative teams.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with x86 CPU microarchitecture.
  • Experience driving front-end methodologies and applying automation or AI tools to improve design productivity.

Education Requirements

Posting specifies one of: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, or related field with 8+ years' work experience; OR Master's degree in those fields with 7+ years' work experience; OR PhD in those fields with 4+ years' work experience. An advanced degree is listed as preferred. (Education combined with relevant professional experience is accepted per posting.)
