Job Title

Senior CPU RTL Design Engineer

Role Summary

Member of Intel's CPU design team responsible for defining, developing, and optimizing RTL for microarchitectural features in next-generation processors. Works closely with architecture, verification, physical design, and SoC integration teams to meet power, performance, area, and timing goals.

Experience Level

Senior — role expects substantial prior experience (see Education Requirements for degree + years guidance).

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include RTL design, microarchitecture implementation, and collaboration across engineering teams.

  • Develop and optimize RTL logic and simulations for CPU blocks using SystemVerilog.
  • Contribute to architecture and microarchitecture definition for CPU features.
  • Optimize designs for power, performance, area, and timing (PPA).
  • Ensure design integrity for physical implementation through appropriate strategies and tools.
  • Review verification plans, assist in debugging failing RTL tests, and resolve issues.
  • Document microarchitectural specifications and coordinate with SoC customers for integration.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience (education items are summarized under Education Requirements).

  • Extensive RTL design experience using SystemVerilog and strong hardware modeling and logic debug skills (7+ years experience specified in posting).
  • Experience with energy-efficient and low-power logic design techniques, including high-frequency optimization (5+ years specified).
  • Experience with clock-domain crossing (CDC) and power-aware design (5+ years specified).
  • Proficiency in scripting for automation and tooling (TCL, Perl, or Python; 3+ years specified).
  • Familiarity with static timing analysis, UPF, lint checks, and timing convergence processes (preferred).
  • Knowledge of CPU power-management concepts (power/electrical budgeting, DVFS, thermal, P/C states) and system architecture is a plus.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related STEM field with 7+ years of relevant experience; OR a Master’s degree in the same fields with 5+ years of relevant experience. PhD in a related field is listed as preferred (with 2+ years of experience). Fields referenced: Electrical/Computer Engineering and Computer Science.
