Job Title

Senior CPU RTL Design Engineer

Role Summary

Implement and optimize RTL for CPU integer, floating point and reservation-station logic, and provide technical leadership for IP delivery. Work on CPU microarchitecture features, collaborate with architecture and backend teams, and drive quality for integration into full chip designs.

Experience Level

Senior level. The posting indicates senior-level experience and leadership responsibility; years guidance in Education Requirements below.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include RTL design and team leadership for CPU IP development.

  • Develop and drive logic design, RTL coding, and simulation for CPU functional units and IP blocks.
  • Contribute to architecture and microarchitecture feature definition and implementation.
  • Optimize RTL for power, performance, area, and timing; support timing closure and physical implementation requirements.
  • Review verification plans, analyze failing RTL tests, and implement corrective fixes to ensure feature correctness.
  • Provide technical guidance and leadership to design teams; propose process and methodology improvements.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with architecture, backend, and other design teams for integration and product goals.
  • Cultivate a technically strong team culture and reinforce effective engineering practices.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience; preferred items are noted.

  • 6+ years experience in silicon development focused on CPU microarchitecture and logic design (implementation experience in integer/floating point/OOO execution/reservation stations).
  • 5+ years of technical leadership delivering successful IP projects.
  • Experience with timing closure and power convergence for CPU designs.
  • Hands-on RTL implementation, coding, and simulation; experience optimizing logic for PPA and timing goals.
  • Experience reviewing/verifying RTL features and resolving functional failures.
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, written and verbal communication skills; ability to work in a fast-paced collaborative environment.
  • Preferred: experience with x86 CPU microarchitecture.
  • Preferred: experience driving front-end methodologies and using automation or AI tools to improve product-level outcomes.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering or related field with 12+ years of work experience; OR Master's degree in those fields with 10+ years of work experience; OR PhD in those fields with 6+ years of work experience. The posting ties required degree levels to minimum years of experience and indicates experience may be obtained via a combination of education, projects, research, jobs, or internships.
