Senior CPU Performance Architect

Role Summary

The Senior CPU Performance Architect will drive microarchitectural performance improvements for flagship CPU cores, working on modeling, proposing, and validating innovations through implementation and post-silicon analysis. The role sits on the CPU Performance Architecture team in Israel and partners closely with microarchitects, build, verification, and post-silicon teams to meet performance, power, and area targets.

Experience Level

Senior - typically requires at least 8 years of frontline experience on state-of-the-art flagship CPU projects.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include defining, validating, and delivering CPU microarchitectural improvements.

  • Invent and refine microarchitectural ideas to improve CPU performance.
  • Model potential improvements to evaluate merit and feasibility.
  • Implement solutions and coordinate with build, functional and performance verification, and post-silicon teams.
  • Resolve timing, power, and area trade-offs to enable correct implementation.
  • Partner with lead microarchitects to meet core-level performance, area, and power objectives.
  • Advocate for design choices, communicating benefits and trade-offs to stakeholders.
  • Lead by example to drive microarchitecture definition and execution.

Requirements

Must-have technical experience and attributes.

  • At least 8 years of experience in frontline roles on flagship CPU projects.
  • Deep understanding of modern CPU microarchitecture and ISA-level architecture.
  • Proven track record of microarchitectural innovation (e.g., midcore or memory-subsystem uarch).
  • Experience in performance modeling, debugging, and quantifying the benefit of new ideas.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with build and verification teams to deliver changes.
  • Strong critical thinking, written and verbal communication, and advocacy skills.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience leading microarchitecture definition and driving cross-team performance initiatives.
  • History of achieving ambitious targets through close collaboration with architects and microarchitects.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
