Job Title

Senior CPU Front End Methodology Engineer

Role Summary

Technical lead responsible for front-end RTL methodology, coding practices, and toolchains for high-performance CPU microprocessors. Work with architecture, backend, and design teams to improve RTL quality, scalability, and product-level outcomes.

Expected to drive methodology improvements, deliver RTL development strategies, and help the team meet power, performance, area, and timing targets.

Experience Level

Senior. Typical guidance: multi-year silicon development experience (see Education Requirements and Requirements for specific experience thresholds).

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include:

  • Lead and implement front-end RTL methodologies and coding best practices.
  • Leverage tools and workflows to improve RTL coding, debug, and verification efficiency.
  • Advance front-end methodology direction and contribute to architecture and microarchitecture discussions.
  • Develop strategies, tools, and techniques for RTL development and logic optimization to meet PPA and timing targets.
  • Ensure front-end solutions integrate with back-end flows and physical design requirements.
  • Collaborate across architecture, backend, and other design teams to deliver IP and product features.
  • Build and sustain a high-performing technical organization and promote core engineering practices.
  • Communicate technical status, tradeoffs, and risks clearly to stakeholders.

Requirements

Must-have and preferred technical qualifications.

  • Must-have: 6+ years of experience in silicon development of CPU logic.
  • Must-have: 5+ years of technical leadership and delivering successful IP projects.
  • Must-have: Hands-on experience with RTL methodologies, coding, and debug.
  • Must-have: Broad understanding of front-end and back-end flows and how they interact.
  • Must-have: Strong problem-solving, analytical skills, and effective written and verbal communication.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience with x86 CPU microarchitecture and x86 memory management and execution.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience driving front-end methodology adoption and using AI tools to realize measurable benefits at the product level.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience optimizing designs for power, performance, area, timing, and physical design integrity.

Education Requirements

Degree options and equivalent experience: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related field with 8+ years of work experience; OR Master's degree in those fields with 7+ years of work experience; OR PhD in those fields with 4+ years of work experience.
