Job Title
Senior CPU Compiler Performance Engineer
Role Summary
Design and implement compiler optimizations and tooling for NVIDIA CPUs to maximise performance for AI, HPC and data-centre workloads. Work on hardware–software co-design, collaborating with CPU architecture teams, distributed partners and upstream open-source projects.
This role focuses on performance analysis, compiler code generation and contributing production-quality C++ compiler software used across NVIDIA compute products.
Experience Level
Senior — 8+ years of relevant industry experience as stated in the posting.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include:
- Design and implement compiler features, optimizations and code generation targeting NVIDIA CPUs.
- Profile and analyse AI and HPC workloads to identify performance bottlenecks.
- Work closely with CPU architects and pre-silicon teams to guide hardware–software co-design.
- Develop and maintain high-performance compiler software in C++.
- Engage with upstream and open-source compiler projects to contribute improvements and integrate changes.
- Use performance modeling, simulation and analysis tools to validate optimizations.
- Collaborate with geographically distributed partner teams to align compiler and hardware roadmaps.
Requirements
Key qualifications and skills.
-
Must-have: Practical experience in compiler development or equivalent projects.
-
Must-have: Knowledge of language front-ends, compiler optimisation techniques and code generation modules.
-
Must-have: Strong hands-on C++ programming skills and experience delivering production software.
-
Must-have: Good CPU architecture understanding and low-level performance analysis, with experience in pre-silicon hardware/software co-design.
-
Must-have: Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
-
Nice-to-have: Experience with performance modeling, simulation and advanced performance analysis tools.
-
Nice-to-have: Familiarity with industry compiler infrastructures such as GCC, LLVM or MLIR.
-
Nice-to-have: Domain knowledge of AI algorithms, scientific HPC applications and related code optimisations.
-
Nice-to-have: Experience with CPU ISAs such as Arm (AArch32/AArch64), RISC-V, x86_64, PowerPC or DSPs and working on pre-silicon toolchains.
-
Nice-to-have: Track record of contributions to free software or open-source compiler communities.
Education Requirements
BS or MS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a related technical field, or equivalent practical work experience; equivalent experience explicitly accepted.
