Senior Component Engineer

Role Summary

As a Component Engineer focused on electro-mechanical test jig products, you will evaluate and select electrical and optical components, recommend interconnect solutions, and provide technical support to design and test teams.

You will work cross-functionally with hardware, mechanical, and firmware/software teams to meet performance, cost, and reliability targets.

Experience Level

Senior β€” typically 5+ years of relevant experience in electrical and optical components and interconnects.

Responsibilities

The role's primary responsibilities include component selection, evaluation, and cross-functional support:

  • Collaborate with hardware, mechanical, and firmware/software teams to define requirements and specifications.
  • Research and evaluate manufacturers and suppliers for electrical and optical components.
  • Analyze component parameters including optical characteristics, data rates, power budgets, and physical form factors.
  • Recommend interconnect solutions based on performance, cost, and reliability.
  • Provide technical support during development and testing of electro-mechanical test jigs.
  • Monitor industry trends and technology advancements relevant to automated jig technologies.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience:

  • 5+ years working with electrical and optical components such as VCSELs, EMLs, connectors, high-speed cables, fibers, and transceivers.
  • Experience evaluating insertion loss, return loss, dispersion, and bandwidth.
  • Familiarity with optical interconnect standards and protocols (for example Ethernet, InfiniBand, Fiber Channel).
  • Experience with product lifecycle systems and processes (PLM, Agile / PDP).

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication and collaboration abilities.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Optical Engineering or equivalent practical experience; related technical fields accepted.
