Senior Compiler Optimization Engineer - MLIR

Role Summary

Work on the MLIR/LLVM-based compiler middle-end to implement optimizations and compiler passes that improve performance of compute workloads on NVIDIA GPUs. The role is on the Compute Compiler Team and involves collaboration with hardware, compiler, and application teams, and participation with the open-source LLVM community.

Senior β€” 8+ years of relevant compiler optimization experience (per posting).

Responsibilities

Deliver and validate compiler optimizations and features that improve application performance on NVIDIA GPUs.

  • Profile application code on NVIDIA GPUs to identify performance bottlenecks.
  • Identify and implement optimizations in the MLIR/LLVM-based compiler middle end.
  • Design and develop compiler passes and transformations to improve performance and robustness.
  • Propose and implement novel compilation pipeline ideas targeting AI and HPC workloads.
  • Collaborate with distributed compiler, hardware, and application teams to resolve issues and integrate improvements.
  • Engage with the LLVM/MLIR open-source community to ensure integration and alignment.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience for immediate contribution.

  • 8+ years experience in compiler optimizations (loop optimizations, inter-procedural and global optimizations).
  • Excellent hands-on C++ programming skills.
  • Understanding of processor ISA; GPU ISA experience is a plus.
  • Strong software-engineering practices focused on robust, maintainable solutions.
  • Good communication and documentation skills; self-motivated and collaborative.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience developing CUDA or other parallel programming applications.
  • Deep understanding of parallel programming concepts.
  • Experience with MLIR, LLVM and/or Clang compiler development.
  • Familiarity with deep learning frameworks and NVIDIA GPU architecture.

Education Requirements

B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience. Advanced degrees are noted as preferred in the source.
